When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Matthew 8...

Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you,' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against...

Pride and Prejudice

  • When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2 WEB

The movie "Pride and Prejudice" might have scored good ratings at the theatre, but it will not score you points with God. He looks at your heart instead of your clothing. These are two great hindrances to the Holy Spirit moving in your daily life and each of us has dealt with one, or both of them at some point.

When we are prideful, arrogant, and haughty, we become our own god and there is no room for another. When we already 'know everything' then we leave no room to be taught the truth. We attempt to shape God into our own understanding, which turns out as bent and deceived as we are. We are often too proud to see our own prejudice, but God has a mirror that reveals it: His Word.

Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). When we become prideful, scripture tells us that destruction, a fall, and shame is coming our way. When we walk in humility, wisdom and promotion comes. C.S. Lewis described humility well: "Humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself, less."

Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar (1 John 4:20). We should never be prejudiced because of someone's status or race, for God created us all. When we begin to think that we are somehow better than those around us, we are just walking in pride again. Pride and prejudice go hand in hand, and where you find one, you will usually find the other. They are a stench to God and will spiritually blind you.

Separate yourself from these 'old friends' daily and let the Holy Spirit fill that spot in your life. When given the choice, take the servant's path and put other's needs before your own. When meeting someone new, assume the best until they prove you wrong. Try and see the good inside of people, as Jesus would.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please guide me today and help me make the right decisions. Let me see the world through Your eyes. Point out any pride or prejudice in my life and give me the grace to correct it, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Heavenly Father thank You once again, help us to treat and see people around us with the love and care that You give us. If there is pride and prejudice in our life, that Your grace take it away from us. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Thank you Pastor for this great message, sometimes we forget what the Lord has shown us. God bless you.

My goodness... What a powerful word!!! This was one of the scripture lessons I grew up with. It was, and still is, constantly quoted by my mother to always be humble because, "Pride goeth before a fall." Thank you so much for letting God use you to bless me this morning with the reminder that we are to treat people with worth and respect!!! God Bless You, Pastor and Mrs. Todd!!!
