You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith. In the same way, wasn't Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead. James...

However you are just in all that is come on us; for you have dealt truly, but we have done wickedly; neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies with which you did testify against them. For they have not ser...

However, what things were gain to me, these have I counted loss for Christ. Yes most assuredly, and I count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ and be...

The Rock and a Hot Place

  • Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, 'Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If it happens, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.' Daniel 3:16 WEB

While standing before the most powerful king on earth, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had a tough decision to make. Obeying the king's order would mean to disobey God's command, to have no other gods except Him. Disobeying the king would land them in a white hot, furnace of fire. They were caught between The Rock, and a hot place.

King Nebuchadnezzar had built a golden idol ninety feet high and commanded everyone in his kingdom to bow down and worship it. Three Israelites refused and told the king that the God they served was able to deliver them, but even if He did not, they would not bow down to his god. When faced with great evil and certain destruction, they chose to trust God and stood strong in their faith. In the end, God did deliver them and they were promoted in the kingdom.

When darkness comes, it's not time to whine, but time to shine. When you have done all that you can, stand, and believe that God will take care of the rest. And even if He does not, you will do what is right. In the end, you will find that God always does what is best for you. So be calm, be patient, God is not dead, and this too will soon pass. Even if you have to go into the furnace, God will meet you there.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank you for everything that You have done for me. Please help me to stand strong when faced with adversity. Help me make the right decisions and be the one that you called me to be, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people" (Ephesians 6:18). If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network

It is becoming more difficult to stand up for Christianity. Our faith seems to be challenged every day! It can be so hard to do what is right when one is labled "intolerant"!

Amen ! I am no stranger to the refining fire. I can attest that He is more than able to sustain if you stand firm and belive in His mercy and grace. Getting singed does create pain, but it toughens the armor of God's warriors. I am heat-resistant through Him and peace fills me when all seems lost.
