Then he said to them, "The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send ou...

Icy Paint Buckets

  • He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? If you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own? Luke 16:10 WEB

It was a gray, cold day in Myrtle Beach and the wind blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean caused the paint in our buckets to have small slivers of ice floating to the top of them. I had just started to work with this company and we were painting a tall condominium right on the oceanfront during the winter, the off season when the tourists had gone home.

I worked hard. Partly to keep warm, and partly because I try and do everything as unto the Lord, wholeheartedly (Colossians 3:23). If you understand that you are working directly for the Lord, that He intentionally put you here to do this job today when you could have been anywhere else, it will give your work new meaning. Also my dad told me that if you concentrate on your work, the day will go by much faster, and it is true.

After a while, the lead man on the crew came to me and in a hushed, slightly embarrassed tone, he explained that I was making the rest of them look bad. They were doing just enough to get by, which centered around finding a corner to stay warm in. It seemed to be a coordinated effort to stretch the job out as long as possible.

The Holy Spirit groaned within me. I smiled and continued working and began to whistle the tune from the Andy Griffith show. Within a month, I was the lead man on the crew and that guy was on unemployment. In time, God gave me my own business. He that can be trusted with a little, can also be trusted with a lot. If you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?

I try to work for the Lord wherever He places me, and its not always a bed of roses. I have dug miles of ditches if they were put end to end, pumped out septic tanks, painted houses, cropped tobacco, changed automobile transmissions, polished brass, installed computer networks, written software applications, and played music in bands during the night. If He would open the door for me, I would step through it. If I was faithful, He would promote me. That often meant closing that door and opening a new one somewhere else.

You can prosper wherever you are and whatever you are doing. Joseph prospered while a slave, then prospered while in prison, then prospered as ruler of Egypt. If God put you there, work hard and keep a good attitude. It will lead to your promotion, or something better. How you behave at work directly reflects on the God that you serve. Be faithful in what God has given you. Work hard at it, for there will be a reward in due season.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please give me the grace to perform my best. Equip me with the skills that I need and help me make the right decisions. Please open the next door for me and give me a clear vision, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (2 Chron 7:14). If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network

Maria Mesia
Maria Mesia Pastor Diod Todd, I have seen that since I was 4 years old, I look frowned in the pictures taken to me, and I didn't knew why. Your post today took me to look for the meaning of "frown" and it came to me the understanding that since my childhood I was disproved all the time, never a positive word for something done well, I grew without affirmation but with a frown sign in my face. Today that it was brought to me the understanding, I decide to forgive all the desaprove that was thrown on me, and change that with a thankful heart for the unconditional love and embrace from my heavenly father, from Jesus and the Holy Spirit, and declar that His love and approval change my life and the expression in my face is one of happiness.
