After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses assistant, Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. Joshua 1:12 ESV
Moses the servant of the Lord died at 120 years old and the Lord buried him (Deut, 34:6). No one knows exactly where. The devil was upset about this because he wanted the body of Moses (Jude 1:9). The people would have turned his grave into a shrine or idol and begun worshiping there and praying to it. There could have began a new religion of Moses worship.
All Israel mourned and wept for Moses for thirty days, then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended (Deut 34:8). When the thirty days had passed, and the mourning was completed, the Lord told them Moses my servant is dead, Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan (Joshua 1:2). After the death of Moses, Israel entered the promised land.
This period signaled a clear ending to an era, so that a new era could begin. The end of wandering in the desert, the beginning of taking the promised land. Though they were sad and mourned the passing of Moses, in order to move forward it was necessary. The old passed away and the new began.
At times, God will end something in our life that we cling to. When we finally let it go, He will bring in a new era. It is not pleasant when it is happening and there may be mourning, a passing away. If He had not closed our business, I would not be in ministry. For you to move into your real destiny, at some point, the old must pass away.
