The Promised Land

  • After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses assistant, Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. Joshua 1:12 ESV

Moses the servant of the Lord died at 120 years old and the Lord buried him (Deut, 34:6). No one knows exactly where. The devil was upset about this because he wanted the body of Moses (Jude 1:9). The people would have turned his grave into a shrine or idol and begun worshiping there and praying to it. There could have began a new religion of Moses worship.

All Israel mourned and wept for Moses for thirty days, then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended (Deut 34:8). When the thirty days had passed, and the mourning was completed, the Lord told them Moses my servant is dead, Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan (Joshua 1:2). After the death of Moses, Israel entered the promised land.

This period signaled a clear ending to an era, so that a new era could begin. The end of wandering in the desert, the beginning of taking the promised land. Though they were sad and mourned the passing of Moses, in order to move forward it was necessary. The old passed away and the new began.

At times, God will end something in our life that we cling to. When we finally let it go, He will bring in a new era. It is not pleasant when it is happening and there may be mourning, a passing away. If He had not closed our business, I would not be in ministry. For you to move into your real destiny, at some point, the old must pass away.

Samantha Thompson
Samantha Thompson What if God tell you to go to a place you don't won't to go?  About 3 years I had to leave where I was very happy at and come back to my hometown.   See my mother passed away almost 3 years ago.  So I know the reason I'm here, to be with my father.  Also God reveal to me that I will be back, I just don't know when.  It took me a whole year to join the church I grew-up in.  I have tried to be happy here, by letting go of where I was at, but still I just want to go back.  I was happy there.  Even though I had no job, no money from time to time I was happy.  God always provided for me.

Marisa Jackson
Marisa Jackson This is very difficult at times!  Losing my parents has been the most difficult and painful experience and while I know they are with our Father in Heaven, I miss them very much and the pain I feel is deep to the core of my soul!  God continues to hold me every so tightly as I walk through this journey and I always remember the good times.  The old must pass away, I just pray that no matter the journey, God will continue to embrace, love and fill our spirits with joy and peace!  Amen!

Caroline Ibarra
Caroline Ibarra Thank you Todd for this message. I was laid-off in February and was completely devastated. I'm not comfortable with change, and after 8yrs of being underpaid and overworked GOD knows my worth. Today is my second interview for a job that has better pay and better benefits. So clearly God has a plan for my life, I just had to learn to trust the process. Sometimes we get so comfortable, that He stretches and pulls until we pay attention. That may include being pulled from the frying pan--and dumped right into the flames.

Valisa Joy
Valisa Joy Amen. My husband lost his job in the beginning of February after 13 years of faithful service. He has since been admitted into the hospital with stress related chest pains. We no longer have health coverage for him to receive his much needed high blood pressure medicine. And although he has begun another job through the same union, the pay was cut extremely and he doesn't work enough hours to keep his coverage, but God is good and i know everything happens for a reason. This message is very encouraging. Pray for us as we pass over into the new. Thank you.

Karen Juhl
Karen Juhl It took me a year of begging God to restore my broken marriage, only to finally realize the marriage was not meant to be.  I mourned for a year, to no avail. I finally let go and realized what my former husband meant for bad, God meant for good.  God has restored to me all the enemy tried to take away. I praise Him for never leaving or forsaking me.  God is good...all the time!

Marilyn Salter
Marilyn Salter My Mother passed away in Feb. 2013. I think about her everyday, but I don't weep for her anymore. I know that she is in a far better place than I am. God saw me through that first year of her passing and helped me to move past it. He has always guided through things that I don't need to be in.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield Oh, I may as well 'fess up--THERE IS A HEAVEN and I SAW it! Albeit briefly, I actually was clinically dead one day back in December 2014. I don't talk about it much, because it upsets my ex husband, who was at home--but DRUNK and could not help me. Yes, I saw HEAVEN! It was amazing--that's all I can say. I recall colors so vivid, they reminded me of the marbling I do on fabric--but brighter! And all my senses were integrated. Hard to explain. Impossible, actually. I did have a psych evaluation afterwards when I told my doctor what happened. And I passed. Instead of being held for the mandatory 72 hours, I was discharged after all my labs denoted NO drug/ETOH use. I was NOT deemed psychotic, as my parents insisted.I will gladly speak about it to anyone, but I'm deaf! Love to all, Kathy

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt I do believe this. God uses us for His glory and at different times of our life, things do change. God uses us in ways we would never dream of.  Your life, Dion sure shows that. I know as I look back over my life, I can see the different seasons that God has had for me. My life has not gone as planned, but God has used every part of it for His glory. Nothing ever goes to waste with God.

Cheryl Hepler The thought of the people following Moses & not finding his body came to be a good thing is so true.  They might have worshipped him.  The things we could worship like people says to me anything that takes our eyes off Jesus is the devil's work.  Closing doors so to get to new open doors has apprehension & excitement rolled together often.  Hard being human some days.  Needing to keep seeking the peace that passes all understanding for me correcting my thoughts that Jesus is my strength

Deleted Member Yes the pain can feel unbearable when we lose someone we love. I lost my Grandmother two months ago and each day it feels like the pain will never go away. She was like a second Mom to me, but I know she is happier where she is at and she is no longer in pain. I've lost probably about 20 family members and friends in less than two years, but God has been with me through everyone. So I look to the future and trust God for my everyday. ( I am truly sorry about the loss of your Mom ) I will keep you in my prayers. God bless you.

Deleted Member I  am so sorry for your loss. I know people cannot be replace and only time can help heal. Many times when I've lost someone close to me, people want to say time will heal it. But I truly believe that only God can heal it, it may be through time or the strength He gives us. But all healing comes from Jesus and He can make your future brighter than you ever dreamed. I try to think when I lose someone close to me, like just two months ago I lost my Grandma, she was like a second Mom to me, I believe Heaven gain a precious soul and that she is with my Granddaddy and Jesus needed her for a special reason. Jesus will heal the past and bring a great future. God bless you in everyway.

But I know that when things or people are taking out of our lives, that Jesus is right there helping us every step of the way. So when the pain is too much to bear, give it to Jesus, lay it at His feet as if He was right there in the room with you, and tell Him I'm giving my past pain to you and I am believing for a greater future. God bless you:)

Deleted Member Yes, losing loved ones is one of the hardest things we ever face on this earth. I know I lost my grandma just 2 months ago and she was like a second mom to me. Some days the pain is unbearable, but I have had to give it all to Jesus and He has been carrying me through one day at a time. A beautiful song my niece sung at my grandma's funeral was Roses Will Bloom Again. I take that song and say to myself, yes they will, because Jesus is with me all the way . That was my grandma's favorite song and she loved her roses. I sit in her yard sometimes and just look and all the beauty in her flowers, I see her in them. God bless you and I will pray that peace and calmness will come to you and that the pain of your loss will turn to joy as you remember all the wonderful memories. God bless you:)

Deleted Member I sure do understand how you feel, Samantha, throughout this pass year, I lost my home, lost many loved ones and just 2 months ago lost my grandma. So I have had to make major changes in my life and I don't do well with change. I'm like to have a routine and to know life is just simple, but I sure have put pulled out of my comfort zone is so many ways. I finally have learned and I still have to take it day by day to find my happy place in my mind so I will feel at peace. I know Jesus is giving me peace, but He has allowed me to find that happy place. In my mind I go to the ocean, where I hear the sound of the waves which I love and the sand beneath my feet and the salt air blowing, that is my happy place. Even though I don't quite understand all the changes that had to be made in my life, I do understand He that Jesus was right there. So He is taking my past and bringing me to a new future. For all this I Praise Him from the bottom of my heart.

Rod Fortner
Rod Fortner I had a similar thing happen in my life 17 years ago which brought us to the area we're living in now. I grieved over the move for years but looking back I can see that where we were would have most likely gone no where and seeing all that God has brought us to be involved in here, it would never have happened without closing one chapter and beginning another. It was painful at the time but now I understand why. Praise God.
