One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him. 'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?' Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. A second likewise is...

Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 'How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? Should I Stay Or Should I Go

  • Now the LORD said to Abram, Go from your country and your kindred and your fathers house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. Genesis 12:1 ESV

Abram had to make a choice: obey God, or continue on with his life as it was going. He was going to have to move away from his hometown, abandoning the life he had built and even leaving his family behind. As a son, he would also inherit his fathers property so he had every reason to stay.

Yet...the Lord had given Abram a promise that required an action. If he would leave his fathers house and country and go to the land that He would show him, God would bless Abram and make him into a great nation. Abram had to take the first step to make that dream happen. Abram chose to make the move and God did fulfill His promises to him, just as He had said.

Many of Gods promises come like this:

Give and it will given unto you. (Luke 6:38)

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7)

Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12)

You are not given chapter two until you complete chapter one. Sometimes God gives us a dream or a promise which requires an action on our part. Nothing will happen until we take that first step. Abram would not have become Abraham if he had not obeyed God, and the idea that He gave you will not come to pass, if you never begin.

Lisa Paige Abraham sought a city "built by God" and lived in the desert in a tent for many many years.  Although he never found that city, in his heart in knew that it would be a more glorious one than he ever found on this earth.  He knew that city built by God was "Heaven" and by following the Lord he knew he had a place there!  Amen for his promises of eternal life in heaven!

Kathy Banfield YES! So very true! As I look back, I realize ALL my prayers have been answered, even the childish pleas with God for a HORSE--LOL. God heard me every time. Now, a boy a had a major crush on all throughout grammar school and jr high has written to me! How cool is that? I smiled, wondering if the former class hottie is now fat and bald--LOL

Gail Sellu
Gail Sellu Amen, I moved away from family and friends for almost 16 years to be with my new husband. I finally moved back home. My husband reminded me a few days ago of my accomplishments while I was away compared to what I had when I left. I thank God for keeping and never leaving me because it was not always easy! He fulfilled his promise to never leave nor forsake me! I owe it all to him, in Jesus' name I pray!

Michele Callahan
Michele Callahan Wow!! WOW!! 9 months ago I 'stepped' out of a church I was attending. I stepped, more like pushed, but all in all left a church I was attending for 7 years. Yea 7 years... I get that part. This church was my home away from Home. Many times I would go various times during the week for studies and on Friday Night for Celebrate Recovery. However, things turned bad inside the church. Happens to the best of pastors and congregations. However, I kept delaying leaving for almost a year & God created a push, so to speak. Now when we left my husband & I received ugly backlash from the Sr Pastor, other leaders & some in congregation.  Ugly is putting it mildly. I was even made to leave Celebrate Recovery, even being a leader in CR, I was asked to leave. I did nothing wrong. I followed God's call to leave. Celebrate Recovery is where it hurt me the most. The hardest blow. I didn't not violate any CR guidelines in anyway. I was asked to leave because I refused to stop being friends when they told me to to people we are very close to. But besides all this, this devo. Is WOW as it hits me right where I am. I need to stop looking back. What they have done is their baggage not mine and God delivered me from an unhealthy place and has delivered me into His perfect will, into a healthy place and a new Celebrate Recovery. Praise the Lord. I am excited to see all God has planned, His purpose through me in thisnext chapter.

Karen Pasquinelli
Karen Pasquinelli I can relate to what you say Shannon.  I am on a wait list for an apartment in the state my family lives. It is a senior apartment and they just now working on 2009.  We applied in 2014 :(.  Any way I keep praying. I miss my family so much.  I don't know anyone here anymore they have all moved back to where they are from.  Apartments in Calif are so expensive that we have no choice but to wait for this one because we will have help with the rent.  I pray that you will be able to go back home very soon.

Sylvia Todd
Sylvia Todd Michele, we have been there, too. The Lord told us to leave a church and we didn't. The result was not pretty, but was a good lesson in obeying promptly when He tells us something. I pray that the Lord heals the wounds from that event for all involved, in the name of Jesus!

Dion Todd
Dion Todd Sometimes that happens. Some churches tend to gravitate towards control and then begin to use the Bible and the little power they have to control the congregation. At that point it becomes borderline cultish, and you have to leave... It is ok, God has a better one  :)

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler I love all this I read.  I was seeking the Lord to show me in my church if there be a place I fit.  To be with those there as scripture says to work in the ody together for the Lord in service getting along with each.  A song I listened yo on radio earlier spoke words of remembering the fire within that first was experienced when our walk began with Christ.  Oh what a flame.  Where you tell everyone your experience with the Lord for them also to know Him.  Being in different ministries in an evangelistic way.  The First Love.  I am blessed as a wife and grandma here in my home, as a neighbor, and to pray for those the Lord has shown me to pray for on our list my husband & I have.  So I wait to hear His leading and know I have asked therefore to be contended for all He has given.  Yet that First Love is recalled and pray to not forget nor neglect what occurred that day and what followed.

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler Michele know this hurt.  Years ago my husband & I left a church family/home where a fracture had begun & got worse.  We saw to move where our 3 would benefit with others their age in a church/family and more largely a youth group they loved being with where they felt surely it was their desire.  It took seeking & trying other churches.  We landed in one we were at about 10 ten years.  For good reasons one by one, as we were serving as teachers for 6,7 & 8th graders & my husband a van driver for those in city & around we needed to let go after one year.  The pain of shunning grew & became clearer much more that their were church family that actually were running the church where their opinion was law.  Their money spoke loudly.  Sad so sad as we continued to attend.  It grew worse.  We would say hello & they ignored us as though we never exsited (hope the word is spelled right).  We prayed & prayed. Ax second Pastor was their at the time and conferred with us he too was feeling this among the fellowship.  He too was praying about being there.  We had an experience when he left that was so God sent.  An interim Padtor & wife came.  My husband met them as I and a friendship began.  We had another unwanted hurt that happen.  My husband's first wife conspired with two children left in home (twins) to live with her.  We found this awful happening going on with them in things they were doing that she okayed.  One was on the road to his later life of alcoholism & the other was allowed to be with a boy of her young age heart.  We spoke with them & left the decision with them and God which they understood.  This Pastoral couple came to minister to us and the children of what was happening.  As this sore was opened & my poor husband even layed on the floor with a bleeding heart of those he raised five years alone the decision was made the Pastor & wife stayed close in prayer & follow up.  As we still were attending with our deepest hurt they openly & quietly spoke by mouth & body language.  Yes, we left.  This couple eventually left also. We met with them once a month as friends from the pastor's desires for a friendship.  They were retiring after a church in the south they pastored, and other fellowships.  They knew pain of such in their own experience.  We journeyed on & on & on..... Running into others from the first church I mentioned that fractured & some of the last one as years past.  We felt like trees wondering with no place to put our roots.  We are in the one attend around 9 years and see those one by one & two by two come there also.  Giving a try after hurts yet with hope in God to know that family "feel" we lost.  Truly hard yet in His hands with our hearts.  A place to praise God in worship & some experiences to serve.  Books in many have stories of church hurts are out there.  As a whole the body of Christ is in many places with great awareness of God.  It is one day at a time.  I did not come from a Christian home so when I was saved & landed in the first church I mentioned it truly was my Christian home.  Grief is filled in many ways & we/I look to God at His hand & Heart knowing He is with us which is a comforting place we live in.  We work at stepping out yet in a large church it is difficult.  Small groups are there & we had a special one that needed to let go.  My husband's job & other circumstances present difficulty in being a part of most things yet have attended some things. Blessings Michele to your heart and those you love.  My sharing holds many words yet grateful to share if of some help to your own heart.

Deleted Member Yes, this kind of pain can really hurt, but when Jesus is leading you in a new direction, He has greater plans. Lean on Him and allow His perfect will in your life, and most of all even if people tell you not to love or speak to others, Jesus wouldn't do that because He loves everyone, even the one that hurt us the most. Thats when we pray the hardest for everyone.  Jesus loves you.
