But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:4-5 ESV
When I was about twenty years old, I was playing music at a party one night, and suddenly the Holy Spirit came on me with such a loving presence. He instantly changed my life, my desires, and my plans. I did not know who He was, but I wanted to. I placed my guitar in the case, said good-bye to the band, went home and into the bedroom and made things right with God that night. The next morning I got up, went to church, and later got baptized. I started Bible college, got my degree, and here I am. That was certainly not my game plan.
I grew up very legalistic, and viewed God as a mean super-being waiting for me to make a mistake. After a while I learned that I was not very good at keeping rules, and thought that by now He was probably really angry at me, so I avoided Him and the places that I thought He would be. That night the loving kindness of the Lord chased me down and I have never viewed God the same again. No one had to preach to me, He drew me like a magnet. He loves us more than we can even comprehend, even when we ignore Him and go our own way, and He is neither mad nor mean.
Wherever you stand with God today, know that He is pursuing you, wanting a deeper relationship with you, and that He will never give up the pursuit. You can try to avoid Him, but He will come to where you are. He is the game changer.
