Simon Peter said to them, 'I'm going fishing.' They told him, 'We are also coming with you.' They immediately went out, and entered into the boat. That night, they caught nothing. But when day had already come, Jesus stood on the beach, yet the disciples didn't know that it was Jesus. John 21:3 WEBP...

Fly Like an Eagle

  • He was like an eagle hovering over its nest, overshadowing its young, Then spreading its wings, lifting them into the air, teaching them to fly. Deut 32:11 ESV

When an eagle has its young, it lines the inside of its nest with feathers, fur and other soft material to make the little ones comfortable in the nest. The parents hunt and bring food to feed them. Basically they wait on the little ones hand and foot and try their best to make them comfortable in the nest.

Later when the little ones grow and get mature enough to fly on their own, the parents start pulling the fur out of the nest, exposing the sticks and making them uncomfortable. They also stop bringing food, or bring food but place it on a limb outside of the nest so the eaglets have to come out of the nest to get it. Then they place it further and further away and the delays between eating become longer each day. Finally the little eagle will take flight and leave the nest to find food on their own.

We went through a season where our business was dying and no amount of advertising, giving, praying or fasting could change it. When we advertised it was like throwing money into a hole. When we gave, we just had less. When we prayed, we got cold silence. When we fasted, we were only hungry. We held on as long as could, paying our bills with credit cards. Finally, we had to close it and began looking for other work. That was when our life suddenly changed for the better and soon we found ourself pushed into ministry and writing this devotional. The end result was great, but getting here was rough.

Sometimes the Lord will make your situation uncomfortable. No matter where you turn, or how hard you pray, the sticks are still there and you are starving. When this happens, it is time to fly. Everything that you see is temporary (2 Cor 4:18). Jobs end, and new opportunities begin. There is a season for everything (Eccl 3:1), and seasons change. When you are in this uncomfortable situation, It is often hard to tell what to do, but rest assured that He will be there to catch you if you fall.

Carmen McCall
Carmen McCall Holy Spirit is working overtime, Praise God!  I just wrote a devotional yesterday morning about giving up your comfort zone.  As I was writing it for others, I realized God was really talking to me (go figure, lol!).  Then I wake up this morning and read your devotional and He is speaking to me again.  I have been struggling financially for some time now and just can't seem to make ends meet.  Getting my ministry off the ground has truly been challenging, but with small blessings in the midst of the struggle; just enough to let me know God is still working on my behalf and I keep pressing on.  Recently doors have begun to open and I'm grateful.  Your devotional this morning is exactly what I needed to let me know my suffering is not in vain and God's time is the right time.  Please continue to pray for me as I pray for you!    God Bless you and your ministry!!!

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield Oh Pastor Todd, how I relate! When I lost my job as an RN, I had been the sole supporter of our household--my husband had been out of work for several years and both kids were still in high school! When the house went into foreclosure, I was devastated. There were no government agencies to help, and I had been earning too much money as a professional to get accustomed to a lesser way of life! That's what prompted my depression, which I am still receiving therapy for. That same year, I was diagnosed with RA. I lost my hearing the following year. Then Bob and I divorced.I tell everyone I have the life they pray NOT to have!

Carol Pady
Carol Pady I  experienced the same when our business failed. It caused a huge change in our direction. God blessed us with another way to provide for our needs with a job opportunity that literally came knocking at our door. Even though we weren't seeking this job, it has carried us for over 7 yrs. God provided this so I would have everything I needed and plenty of time to write my books. Our business had consumed all of my time, leaving nothing left over to pursue my writing. God knew this and He had a plan.

Charisse English
Charisse English I am going through something now, last year I took my LPN exam for the 3rd time I prayed about it studied for it took it when I felt comfortable taking it and failed it, people was telling me to just take it again but I didn't have any interest in studying for it at all, I don't know if this is something God doesn't want me to do or is it just my own fear of failing.  God helps me in so many other things but when I pray for him to give me the wisdom to study and pass my test again I just am not interest in studying for it at all.

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler Amazed I am how God works using your messages to line up with my needs.   I am having much physical pain.  My right knee is a copy of left one before surgery in Nov.  my back hurts as it did last June before epidermal.  I called for an appt.  can't tell where Fibro is in the mix.  Just hurt all over.  This then gets me down no matter what I say to The Lord or pray.  Yes we give more too.  Harder is me accepting what I use to do & can't now.....wonder if I ever will.  It seems I am in a transition.  My depression has me.  Thought to join the group you have & didn't.  My Spirit is willing & my flesh is weak.  We have been hit hard financially hard & hope to let it go out of my thoughts so The Lord is carrying it.  Blessings to you both & others who join this website.

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler What else do you like to do?  I to was in nursing school for LPN.  I was 17yrs old.  Loved nursing.  Was graduated from high school & continued on to work on floor & attend class in lower floor of hospital.  In class I had my first anxiety attack full blown.  Couldn't stop so was asked to breathe into a paper bag for I was hyperventilating.  Scared very much.  Was entire a doc near by hospital.  Gave some white pils to take...wondered if they were Valium.  I took them awhile with several attacks following.  Parents didn't follow up on a doc.  We were poor so I think maybe that was it.  They put me on a bus to New York to visit my grandparents.  My teachers called & asked me back.  I was unsure how I would be so thanked them and did not return.  I wound up with a nice job pretty soon. That was a blow to you I bet in your experience.  It is hard ....... Blessings to you & may The Lord guide.  Have you read Isa.43:18 to end.  Love it...enjoy.  Cheryl Hepler

Leslie McLea So many times your writings mimic where I have been, and where I am now. At least I know I am not crazy, and have not missed something I was supposed to do. Thank you for your encouraging words, they are right on as usual.( should have read this yesterday, LOL) You Said; When you are in this uncomfortable situation, It is often hard to tell what to do, but rest assured that He will be there to catch you if you fall.
