  • Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place where he was about to come. Then he said to them, "The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send ou...

Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth dea...

The Goodness of God

  • I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living. Psalms 27:13 WEB

David was now a wanted man and on the run for his life. He was once a hero in the eyes of the people, but the ones that he had trusted now sought to kill him. David was on the run when he wrote Psalm 27, either from Saul when Doeg the Edomite reported him, or from his own son Absalom, who attempted to overthrow David and become King.

When everything was against him, David strengthened his faith in God. He remembered the things that the Lord had done for him in the past (Psalms 27:2). Then he confessed that he was going to see the goodness of God again. "I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!"

Sometimes you can do everything right, but everything will go wrong. Those who once loved you, now seem to hate you. When you pray, you may hear only silence. Be assured that the Lord is still there, and nothing is hidden from His sight.

Yes, it may look dark and hopeless, but that is not the end of your story. It is only a valley and there will be another mountain top. Real faith is tested when you continue to live right and seek God, while all hell is breaking loose around you. That is how the apostles did it.

Remember what the Lord has done for you. Do not get beaten down in the trials of life. God has brought you this far, and He is going to bring you the rest of the way. Stay the course and you will overcome. Take courage and know that the Lord is going to fix this somehow. Say it out loud: "I do not know how, but somehow God is going to bring me through this.'

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that You lead me out of darkness and into Your presence. Come into my heart and help me make the right decisions today. I choose to make You a part of my life today. Please bring to memory the things that You have already done for me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

David said, I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread (Ps. 37:25). I have waited on the Lord and he was always there, for He is good. Thank you Pastor for a spiritual devotional. May the Lord continue to bless and use you, Amen.

John Smith
John Smithedited: June 11, 2018

I was reminded tonight of when I was passed out on street in 2008 in San Diego after taking pills that weren’t  what they were supposed to be and waking up with paramedics over me and the lady who drove by and saved me telling me the odds of her driving by that day was “one million to ...NONE!” And how she insisted paramedics get there, I wasn’t homeless OD and to stick me and my blood sugar was 24 which is like a dead person and how I instantly came to when stuck with the glucose pen.  I could have died right there.  The paramedic was apologizing in the ambulance for not getting there sooner like I would know. They didn’t care because they were used to OD of homeless people the woman who saved me explained later.   Then I remembered 2 more times my car spun out of control on interstate (1994 on I-95 in NJ and 2000 on I-90 in IL)  but miraculously, both times, there were no cars around me but rows of many cars 7 or 8 car lengths behind.

GOD truly is protecting me, among His other children. Psalm 27, confidence and courage. Thank you Father & Jesus for this timely Word (again!) through Pastor Dion.

Truly,

Your humbler child,

John Paul Smith
