The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?" He answered them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, But their heart is far f...

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me; declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done; saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure; Isaiah 46:9'10 WEB.During a sci-fi n...

Sudden Stops

  • Don't be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. Galatians 6:6 WEB

As I fell through the air from the top of the building in seemingly slow-motion, my Dad's words came back to mind. We were working several floors up in the air, and he had warned me to watch my balance and not get too close to the edge, but I was young and indestructible at the time.

We were constructing a three story office building and setting the rafters in place on top of the walls, when I lost my balance and fell over the side. Gravity took over, and then I had no more control over the situation. Its not the fall that hurts, but the sudden stop at the end.

Thank God I landed in a huge sand pile that the brick masons had placed there and I did not get a scratch. Right next to where I landed were tall 2x4 stakes sticking out of the ground that could have killed me.

Many times in life we are near a dangerous situation and God warns us to stay balanced and avoid the fringes. Still, we go our own way because after all, we know what is really best for us. When we forego all of the warnings, go over the edge and start our descent down, we finally crash. At this point we sometimes accuse God of hitting us with the sidewalk, when it was our idea and exactly what we wanted. When we break natural laws and reap the consequences, He is not to blame. We reap just what we sow.

Being a Christian does not make you exempt from reaping your harvest. The seeds that you continue to sow in your life will eventually take root and grow. That is why Jesus said to 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you' (Luke 6:31). Yet too many times we have dealt with Christians that would take advantage of us using the 'You have to forgive them' attitude to cover the plain fact they ripped us off.

Stay away from the edges. The Old Testament plagues always seemed to start on the fringes of the camp and never in the Holy of Holies where God's presence resided. Try and stay balanced, centered, grounded, and keep in mind that tomorrow we will reap what we have sown today. If the sidewalk has hit you in the face, don't blame God for it. Just get back up and dust yourself off. The next time we will be more careful and listen to that still, small voice inside that warns us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that you protect me from getting out of balance and help me press deeper into Your presence. Draw my heart to seek Your face and consume that which holds me back, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer" (Romans 12:12). If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network

Amen and Amen! Oh Lord, may I always be sensitive enough to listen to Your voice, however tender it may be, and please, Lord, drown out all of the distractions around me that would keep me from listening and obeying Your word, in the holy name of Jesus I ask and pray, Amen!
