The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?" My Greatest Fear

  • For the thing which I fear comes on me, That which I am afraid of comes to me. Job 3:25 WEB

As we worked to get the fish hook free of my eye lid, an actual calmness came over me. The greatest fear of my life was now behind me, and it turned out that it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I grew up on the rivers of South Carolina fishing, and I always got nervous when people began swinging their fishing lines around. I dreaded the thought of them snagging me with their hook, much less my eye.

One day I took my Dad fishing and he invited a friend of his. That would normally be fine, but she must have thought that she was fly fishing, or she was trying to lasso the fish. She was whipping the line around her, oblivious to everyone else in the small boat.

I was sitting behind her and eventually, as my fear would have it, she snagged my left eyelid with her fish hook, and then swung to make a long cast. I grabbed the line in my hands, stopped her, and for a moment the thought of wrapping her in the anchor rope and sinking her came to my mind, but I pushed it away.

My Dad came to help remove the fish hook from my eyelid, and it turned out that my greatest fear, was actually not all that bad. From as far back as I could remember I had dreaded the thought of having a fish hook snag my eye, and now it had happened and was over. I have been there and done that.

Fear is faith in reverse and draws, even causes, your greatest fears to actually come to pass like a magnet. Job had a fear that something would happen to his children and constantly sacrificed for them. It still happened. I had always had a fear that a fishhook would catch me in the eye, and it did.

Your greatest fear will not be as bad as you think, and your heavenly Father will be there to help you through it. Look to God, pray, and do not become immobilized by fear. The more that you focus on the fear, the more power that you give it. God did not give us a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). Also, be careful of who you let in your boat.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that You will deliver me from fear. Take away the panic, the anxiety, and the fear that is within me and replace it with Your peace. Help me see You clearly and understand that You are truly stronger than all. When You are for me, who can stand against me? In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

This message and prayer you prayed Pastor Dion is just what I needed this morning and I so thank you for having these messages ready for those of us who are up before the sun. I have needed this reminder. God has shown me over and over again that He has my back and that I should not fear. I am so greatful that the Lord knows that I need these continueal reminders of Him takeing care of me, and that He will not leave me alone.

Ouch! I've been hooked before and I can say it definitely smarts. But to get hooked, in the eye? Sheesh! At least the tale has a ending of hope. Thank you for sharing this story with us, Pastor Dion. May the Lord be with you and guide you.

Amen when the feeling of fear comes, the best anecdote is claiming faith, speaking back bible verses to God such as I can do all things through Christ, or God has not given us the spirit of fear, etc. The enemy flees when we stand firm in faith and soon we find ourselves joyful in our circumstances and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Our most valuable weapon against the enemy are bible verses, Jesus exhibited this when He was tempted by Satan in the desert. The sword of the spirit is the Word of God and the devil cannot win against this weapon.

Ah what memories your message brings up to me. I grew up on the water ways and lakes of south Louisiana and Mississippi and snagged my own hands and arms, stepped on a fishing hook or two barefoot, lol! Other than that, I can recall fearing that I would lose a job and praying fervently about it. God spared me and helped me overcome the fear by succeeding by being sent back to the same job and performing my assignment better than before but, I got snagged again by the same job forman  by him causing a situation that did me in again;causeing me to be terminated. This happening even after I had just been asking God to help me stay awake, alert and His help to do my best. I don't understand especially when God has answered so many prayers for me even before I could put them to words. I didn't want to leave there like that but the timing was right for me to prepare my mothers house for sale and the move to Texas that with God's help we just accomplished. I know God knows what's best for me and my family so I MUST continue to trust Him even though my biggest fear came upon me and He helped me get past it. Thank You and praise You Father Yahweh for you are my hope and my future!

AMEN! ❤ Reading today's devotional, I realized my biggest fear came true 3 years ago and, really, I shouldn't be alive! I had a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler... was all broken up in the hospital for 2 weeks. I had surgery to repair my left ankle, knee and wrist. I had a fractured right knee, and broken ribs on my right side. The doctors said I wouldn't be able to walk for 8 to 12 months, maybe more. I was in a rehab hospital for only 2 months after, because God provided the best physical and occupational therapists. With their help and guidance, I was able to learn to walk again In one week with the aid of a walker.
