He took a towel, and wrapped a towel around his waist. Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. Pour Out Your Heart

  • So Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of Yahweh's temple. She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Yahweh, weeping bitterly. 1 Samuel 1:9 WEB

Hannah poured out her heart to the Lord. She wanted a child so badly that the rest of her life seemed empty and nothing else really mattered. Her husband loved her, and they had a great life, but she was troubled and barren. Nothing but a child could seem to fill the hole in her heart. Hannah prayed so hard that the priest Eli thought that she was drunk, and he insulted her. But the Lord heard her and granted her request. She had a son and named him Samuel, meaning 'Asked of God.'

It was not a necessity for Hannah to have a son. It was not a matter of life and death. It was something that she deeply wanted. When it is important to you, it is important to God. Of course, that doesn't mean that we will always get everything that we want. Because our heavenly Father loves us, He will not grant us things that are harmful to us, nor will He work against His own nature or His word. Listen closely, and He will let you know His answer. Put your trust, your faith, and your hope in Him.

It is time to pour out your heart. Get somewhere quiet and tell the Lord all about it. He already knows, but sometimes we have not because we ask not (James 4:2). Today is the day for that to change. May the Lord grant you your petition in Jesus' name.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You know what is in my heart, the thing that I have been longing for. If You will allow it, I humbly pray that you grant my petition, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Retta, I have found (first hand) the best "antidote" for depression is to just praise and sing to the Lord.  I don't mean in your mind.  Get out somewhere and just shout, sing and pray!  Make sure it's in a private place so no one thinks you've gone "crazy"....LOL

God's response to Hannah's prayers was the perfect example of why wer need to ask that His will be done. For even though Hannah desperatly wanted a child, she offered her son back to God. It must have been so hard to do, yet Hannah knew it was the right thing, for all creation righfully belongs to the Lord!

Amen and Amen! The Lord is so good, He knows what we need even before we ask, all we have to do is to patiently wait on Him, continue to pray and trust Him for the outcome! We had such a long and bitter Winter, one thing after another thing broke or went wrong, then my eyes got so bad (due to some of the heavy duty medications that I had and have to take) with irreversable damage, etc., which meant I could no longer drive myself to take care of people in need, etc.  But, little by little, there was always a little blessing here and there, seeing that the Lord had not forgotten us! I know have a total of 18 hours on Sunday in addition to what I already have during the week to help and take care of others, and in addition being able to contribute financially to my family. Our daughter, who had a stroke, etc. last year is gradually getting better, and she is able to drive me to where ever I need to be, praise the Lord for that. Yesterday and today we received a money gift that will help us to take care of our "major" plumbing problems, maybe even help with the electrical situation a bit, and then somewhat catch up on our debts and bills! Praise the Lord, oh my soul, and all that is within me, praise His Holy Name!!!  I'm so very grateful that our Lord looks at our heart and our innermost being, and hears us especially when we ask to have our needs - not wants - met! He doesn't care for fancy words, but wants us to just be ourselves and pour our heart out! That's also, why I like Hannah's story so much, thank you Pastor Dion!
