When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2 WEBThe movie "Pride and Prejudice" might have scored good ratings at the theatre, but it will not score you points with God, who looks at your heart, instead of your clothing. These are two great hindrances to the Holy Spirit moving in your daily life, and each of us has dealt with one, or both of them at some point.
When we are prideful, arrogant and haughty, we are our own god, and there is no room for another. When we already 'know', we leave no room to be taught the truth. Instead, we attempt to shape God into our own understanding, which turns out as bent and deceived as we are. We are often too proud to see our own prejudice, but God has a mirror that reveals it: His Word.
Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). When we become prideful, scripture tells us that destruction, a fall, and shame is coming our way. When we walk in humility, wisdom comes.
"Humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself, less." - C.S. Lewis.
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar (1 John 4:20). We should never be prejudiced because of someone's status or race, for God created us all. When we begin to think that we are somehow better, we are just walking in our pride again. Pride and prejudice go hand in hand, and where you find one, you will usually find the other.
Separate yourself from these 'old friends' daily and let the Holy Spirit fill that spot in your life. When given the choice, take the servant's path. When meeting someone new, assume the best until you are proven wrong.
Prayer: Heavenly Father please guide me today and help me make the right decisions. Let me see the world through Your eyes. Point out any pride or prejudice in my life and give me the grace to correct it, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.Note: Good morning, happy Saturday!
