Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6'7 WEBWe love buttered popcorn at the movies. It just seems to make the whole movie experience better, and it makes us happy. One day when we went to see a movie with some friends, the man at the counter was fuming because he had been assigned to the concession stand.
He loudly complained on and on: 'What were they thinking putting me out here in front of everyone to serve popcorn! I have not done this in years! I am the assistant something something. I am supposed to be in the back!' He practically threw our order on the counter in contempt.
Everyone in the line looked at each other and felt like we were bothering him, but we really wanted our popcorn before the movie started, so we stayed. He was truly a site to behold, and my heart went out to him. I could understand what he was talking about because I have been in similar circumstances.
Each time in my life, before the Lord started to use me in any way that mattered, I went through a season of humbling to prepare me for it. It was voluntary, and I was just given the opportunity to humble myself, not forced to obey. It usually presented itself as a choice, where I could choose to humbly serve in some way, or leave feeling like they didn't know how important that I really was.
It was a choice, and I was free to do either. The times that I chose the humble path, it always ended up with me being promoted in some way later or a golden opportunity appeared. I have literally gone from sweeping the floor, to becoming the manager. God uses humble beginnings. Even His Son Jesus was born in a stable. The grandiose looking doors, are usually not the one that He has for you.
This verse says to humble yourselves so that God may exalt you in due time. He will provide the opportunity, but only you can humble yourself. God does not make you humble, He provides an opportunity for you to serve in a lowly esteemed position with a positive attitude. Then you do the serving and you become humble in the process.
The further it is beneath you, the higher that He will take you. The longer that it takes, the longer the season that is coming. I once served a year polishing brass at minimum wage, then He put me in my own computer business for the next seventeen years.
When He gives you the chance to humbly serve in some way, do it. It is quite possibly the greatest door that could open for you, disguised as something lowly. Jesus, the King of all Kings washed the feet of the disciples like He was a servant. If He puts you at the popcorn stand, serve with a smile and work to be the best server that the world has ever seen. The people in line will appreciate it.

Amen pastor Dion another devotional that seems to be just for me thanks so much I really appreciate your love and devotion to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Amen, Pastor Dion!!! Humility and service go hand in hand, this is a lesson we all have to learn, especially me, to be more and more like Jesus. Thank you for all the many examples and life lessons, which help me to mature and grow in my faith!
Thank you!
I can relate. This morning at work driving,I attempted to take what I thought would be a short cut. I wound up driving around in circles and wasted about 30 min. of travel time by making a wrong turn. I felt so foolish after putting myself through that when I could've just delt with a little traffic and followed the prescribed route. Kinda like when I stray off God's path for my life.
Amen Lord
Father I receive more grace to walk in humility all the days of my life. Amen.

I think we all went through times like this in our life. It would be better to just stay humble and do what you was told. It too shall pass and you'll be in another place soon enough. <3
Thank You Pastor Dion for you daily devotions. :-)

Good story application. I understand stand this when I worked in plant of ATT. Started on 3 Rd shift and transferred to second shift to cleaning. I said when hired no 2nd shift. A boss came to me I wouldn't be there long...wait. Gave it to God. Then I wound up on first shift in a position of increased wages. God is good!
