Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, "Don't fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel." When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, "It is the king of Israel!" Therefore they turned around to fight against him. But Jehoshap...

Risky Business

  • Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us, for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few. 1Sam. 14:6 ESV

Greatly outnumbered, Saul and about 600 Israelites were cowering in fear from the Philistines who had come against them. Only king Saul and his son Jonathan had a sword amongst the entire Israelite army, while the Philistines had thirty thousand chariots as well as six thousand horsemen (1 Sam 13:5). The people who were following Saul were trembling with fear. Some hid in rocks and caves, while others fled the country.

Jonathan gathered his courage, then he and his shield bearer crossed over to the Philistine garrison and started the battle. When he did, God sent a panic among the Philistines and they began to attack each other. As the Philistines turned on each other in confusion, Saul and the rest of the Israelite army joined in the battle and Israel won a great victory that day.

Nothing changes until someone takes a risk. God waited for someone to step up and when they did, He backed them up completely. It only took Jonathan crossing the fear barrier to win that battle. David was the only man who would face Goliath, but he was all that was needed. God just needs one obedient person who will trust Him to change the environment around them. If you feel the Lord calling you to do something, take the risk. He will back you up.

Martin Snyder
Martin Snyder Very relevant today. I feel like I am being led to start a business in an area of my hometown that is overflowing with poverty, alcoholism and heroin addiction. I serve in a church that owns property in the area but the finances have not come through yet. An army of one can emerge victorious with God on his side.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield Once again, Pastor Todd's words have helped me more than any so-called "psychiatrist" could.Right now, I feel as if I'm fighting against all odds myself.Due to a complete misunderstanding, my social worker has me on a "suicide watch" and adamantly REFUSED to return three phone calls of mine! Plus, I'm having "issues" with my bank account, my family, my kids--you name it! Whoever said life as a Christian would be a cakewalk was a liar--but then, I knew that already--LOL! Thanks, Pastor Todd!

kylie dempsey
kylie dempsey This reminds me of a saying.....Face Everything And Recover or F@^$ Everything And Run. I apologise that it's a little crude....but both spell out FEAR....and I have a choice to face that fear... swallow my fear and take His hand....trust Him....and know I will be ok.

Sylvia Schmidt
Sylvia Schmidt I am going to a job interview for becoming a school counsellor today after work. It has taken a lot of faith to get to here. I am an educational assistant working in technology. God is leading me and I am trying to be obedient to this call. I have been helped by counselling and want to help others now. It feels risky to change careers when I am a single parent, but I am working hard at crossing the fear barrier to something new and different. Emailing and technology are comfortable to communicate with others for me. Talking in person to communicate is so different. Taking risk. It feels like today is the start of a change that could turn my whole life around. Praying lots today for God to be with me and give me the right words to say at the interview. Amen.

Nell Neathery God bless you in your calling to start a business in your hometown.  My 3 hometowns are in Louisiana, but I am in East Texas for 2 years, struggling to get back that.  In the meantime, I am an army of one like who, and I am emerging victoriously with God on my side.  I claim this for you and me in Jesus' name, Amen

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler Take a step are key words.  Panic I get.  I have in past had to take steps that once I was fearful about.  It seemed God got me ready to keep my knees from shaking. Feet of the heart I want say mostly for me is where The Lord worked.  Some big ones were costly.  Becoming a Christian & telling family members was one.  I was so excited about Christ being near & things I was experiencing I just shared.  Pains of loss family members & friends. Were very heart hard.  I would stay in His Word & pray a lot thru it.  The person I knew & the one I became were soo different.  I truly believe God knows what I need to jump the hurdle inside of me that was/is holding me back.  Always new ones coming.  "My  people perish for the lack of wisdom & knowledge".  I needed so much teaching because of the ignorance I had in specific areas & still do.  At this moment I am down so believe me I am listening to what I am writing.  Funny isn't it.  Pastor you started the topic so God is using you as I feel so overwhelmed.  Blessings to you & your wife.  You guys look so good together!

Eliza S
Eliza S Sometimes we Over react on things and go in and without thinking Until we realize it might be to late. But then we think I could've I should've I would've of.. All these things could be different  if we take time and think things over before  reacting maybe things be different. I've been there on over reacting. So now I step back and ask God his in control and I put my amour on and be ready so, if the devil out to kill& destroy me he doesn't  have a chance cuz God has the Victory  in me.. He is my Rock.
