The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn't dwell in temples made with hands, neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things. Acts 17:24 WEBWhen I was growing up, we us...

RHM Devotional: Heroes and Monsters from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about the potential of being a Hero, or a Monster, that exists inside each one of us. We get to choose. Once when Jesus was preaching from a boat, He told a parable about a man that sowed wheat in H...

He said to them, 'Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.' Mark 16:15 WEBJesus spoke these words to the eleven Apostles before He ascended to heaven. There is so much that could be said about this, but today we cover 'The Gospel.' The word Gospel means 'glad tidings, good...

A Line in the Sand

  • Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Get up! Why have you fallen on your face like that?' Joshua 7:10 WEB

Joshua lay on his face before the ark of the Lord all evening. Yesterday he was a mighty warrior, but now Israel had lost the first battle at Ai because one of the men with him had broken the Lord's commandment concerning Jericho.

When they crossed the river into the promised land, Jericho was the first city that they faced. All of the gold and silver and valuables were to be brought into the Lord's treasury (Joshua 6:19). It was a 'tithe' or 'first fruits' offering to the Lord.

Israel could have all the rest of the cities, but not the first one. It was God's. Achan took some of the gold from Jericho anyway and hid it in his tent, then God turned away from them, and Israel lost the next battle at Ai.

Joshua was betrayed, and it was not even Joshua's fault, but it certainly affected him. As he lay on his face, crying out to the Lord in pain, hurt, depression, and defeat, he got an answer.

The Lord had a solution: "Get up! Deal with the past, and let's go." He was not to lay there a moment longer, as he was being slowly swallowed in self pity, anxiety, and fear of what might happen because of this defeat. Joshua got up, dealt with it, and was never defeated again.

We can make a fresh start in life today. We can turn around at any point and begin to put God first, believe and trust in Him to take care of us. It is time to draw a line in the sand that we will no longer cross. To commit to the Lord Jesus, and not compromise for a cheap thrill. To break from the destructive patterns of our past.

If you have something that is haunting you today, do what Joshua did: Lay before the Lord and pray until you get your answer. The strength, wisdom, and encouragement to deal with it will soon come. Then make a fresh start with a clean slate, because today is the first day of the rest of your life. Make it count.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please forgive me of my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Wash me and I will be clean. Give me a fresh start today. Make my choices clear and speak to me in ways that I understand, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Search me, Oh Yah, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

I love this.  It's a bit of positive psychology and faith. Get up! Why have you fallen on your face?  I guess God does not understand or support despair.  If God is on our side and He is God why despair?  Get up!  That's gonna be my new motto!  Get up!  Get up!! Get up!  Arise and make the most of your day. Yay!!

cool Michelle-- I hit a ole meeting last night! What a experience! I had receiverd a 12 years Medallion there many years ago! A marker in time they use for Sobriety.. I had 12 years this particular time.. 2 Men went up! I'd say both were miracles, because of Faith, much of which was from God, there strength and direction, from Him!! So amazing interesting!! People have so much too say on the topic of addiction!! Amazingly the most profound statements come from those who truly haven't walked Our Paths!!

Amen. When the going gets hard, they say the tough get going. In a Christian's life when the going gets hard, we need to stop, rest , drop to our knees, pray and then let go of our burdens. Sometimes He will tell us to do something, other times He will tell us to just wait. Waiting can be a lot harder than doing something but it is during this difficult waiting that we learn to fully rely upon Him. These are all necessary steps to grow our faith. There is a certain blessing in the waiting for as we cry out to Him for an answer , we find Him, the closest to us.

Free will-look around evedence of it everywhere! Man choice in thoughts ideas! I tend to get excited, towards the goodness of a walk in Him. If we don't walk it--daw we get nothing!!!
