Entrapment

  • I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, 'Now is come the salvation, the power, and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ; for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night. Revelation 12:10 WEB

In a United States supreme court case in 1932, Sorrells vs United States, a prohibition officer repeatedly tried to get a factory worker to buy him bootleg whiskey. When the man finally gave in and did, the officer arrested him for selling him illegal whiskey.

This was labeled 'Entrapment,' which is when the government persuades you to break a law that they created, and then tries to prosecute you for doing exactly what they wanted you to do.

Our enemy will place a bad thought in your mind, and then immediately accuse you of wrongdoing: 'Look at you! And you call yourself a Christian.' Even though it was not your thought to begin with, he will try his best to make you believe that it was yours, and then make you feel guilty over having it.

This is nothing but a crowd control tactic. If he can make you walk around all day with your head hanging down, feeling unworthy to even pray because of your bad thoughts, then he has successfully neutralized you. When you are too ashamed to speak to God, you are powerless. The joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). If something will not leave your mind, then take it God in prayer, and take away satan's ammunition.

'Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need' (Hebrews 4:16).

Do not fall into entrapment. God is above all of this, He knows who is to blame, and his day is coming. Push these thoughts aside, hold your head up, stand up straight and walk as a child of God each day. I am loved, forgiven, redeemed, and the Lord is my Shepherd.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that You help me put on the helmet of salvation to guard my mind from attacks, help me renew my thought life and take on the mind of Christ. You have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. With Your help, I will overcome, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Thank you. Needed this as a reminder because just yesterday I was struggling with the enemy putting sinful thoughts in my mind.Who am I kidding? The enemy tries every day to foul my thoughts, even while reading this devotion. Sometimes I rebuke him in the name of Jesus and sometimes I plead with God to rid me of the enemies attack when it seems to be an onslaught against my mind. You're so right that the enemy tries for me personally to use his dirty tactics of making me feel ashamed and guilty of even things from the past that I've already asked God to forgive me of. Thank God for teaching me that once He forgives,He chooses to forget it and I have to also because it's gone..............

Wow. Been there Done that. Great job resisting. Similar situation with me last week. Something I would have really regretted if not for the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Funny, but not funny, the thoughts that pop into your mind, ones that you would never even think of. I so do my best to do one of two things, ask the Holy Spirit quickly to change my thoughts and erase what i had thought or seen in my head, or two, claim Isaiah 54:17. NO WEAPON ( not even a thought) formed against thee shall prosper.

Now I have to say one thing here, that in the world today these thoughts can be brought on by what we watch, what we read, what is on a bill board or what we drive by. Just down the street from me, there is a resteraunt, now closed, thank the Lord, but I would have to drive by this daily, and when I shopped I would have my 32 year old son Asher with me. Now this resturant did not bother me as much as it bothered him, it was Hooters. Enough said on that. Up and down the street I drive on weekly are Adult book stores, 52 weeks of romance ( and it aint flowers ) there are dingy movie stores and even in a little convience store, their bill board says x-magazines you can purchase while you are pumping gas. Facebook has its own set of things that make your mind wander even if you did not sign up for it, could have been sent by a relative that thought it was ok to post, well it was not ok to me. Let me say too, that some of your every day catologs you get in the mail have the hint of the dirty which even though your mind was not there when you flipped through, it went there when you saw it on the page. No matter how lovely the photo, the enemy makes it dirty and you feel guilty.

Because of the world we live in we are not exempt at all, yet, God already knows our thoughts before we think them. He knows what we will encounter daily, and what will set your mind a blaze. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE TEMPTED.

If you are on a diet, your best friend will offer you cake, or your favoriate candy, not just any kind, but your favoriate. If you have quit smoking ( Asher is now on 2 weeks of quitting WHOOO WHOO0) I assure you , you will see every person you pass have a ciggerette or a vapor thing in there hand, not only that, we could be in the car at a stop light, and the person in front of us could have their window open and smoking, that smoke will drift into my car and the lure, the temptation for a cigereette will be ablaze in your mind along with the thoughts on how to get one.

If you are trying not to use the Lords name in vain ( my parents used this all the time I was growing up, when I became a Christian, I had to break myslef of it ) I assure you that is all you will hear around you.

The same is with the music you listen to, it could not even be your music but the guy in the car on the side of you at a stop light. The words , as harsh as they are, and some even not understandable, it is the words that disturb you or the ones you are trying not to have in your mind, will quickly come rushing in.

God knows we are not perfect, He knows our hearts, and our love for him. He said confess your sin and He is faithful to forgive. Every once in a while my past will creep in, things I have long since been forgiven for, and when they do, I will go to the Lord and thank Him for saving me from that life, and thank him for the reminder of where I was, and where I am now and then I am at peace.

We all will continue to be in this battle untill the Lord returns then we will be free of such things, that is the day I so look forward to. Thank you Pastor Dion for your message today.

It is not just us adult going through this entrapment but our children as well. They are young and easily affected by the enemy. CNN has a headline article today titled, "Alarming rise in children hospitalized with suicidal thoughts or actions" between 5 and 17 yrs old. There were record number of highschool students died from suicide in my hometown last year than ever before. Many children these days especially teenagers walk around all day with their head hanging down feeling unworthy and empty. Only Christ can break this entrapment.
