  • The Day of Small Things from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. As with many of my messages, this was a word for me, but I will share it with you as I found it encouraging. I have been building a new social media website for Refreshing Hope behind the scenes for months. It is a massive undertak...
  • Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place where he was about to come. Then he said to them, "The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send ou...

Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth dea...

Repeaters

  • The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Beroea. When they arrived, they went into the Jewish synagogue. Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Acts 17:10 WEB

The first mechanical repeater was a telegraph machine, but the practice was in use long before that. A repeater hears a signal and then repeats it verbatim. With the telegraph, someone tapped a signal at one end and the repeater at the other end of the line regenerated it. In wireless networks today, repeaters are used to expand the coverage area, and each repeater says the same thing. It does not question the signal sent to it, but passes it down the line just as it was received.

For a season in my life, I was merely a repeater. I heard things at church or seminary, then repeated them as the gospel truth and I would staunchly defend them. I am now embarrassed to say that at least forty percent of it was rubbish, traditions of men, and fairy tales. That is being polite because it was probably more like sixty percent.

There are so many pet doctrines floating around out there that have absolutely nothing to do with God. Jesus said in Mark 7:7 'In vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' I was taught commandments of men, and then I began teaching others the things that I had learned just like they had.

Don't just be a repeater like I was. The more that I studied the Bible, the more rubbish was revealed in my life. Listen or read the Bible for yourself. The Berean Christians received the word eagerly, but then searched the scriptures to see if it was true. If you do not know what is in the Bible, you will almost certainly be deceived.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You give me a hunger for Your Word. Stir up that desire in me and open my mind so that I can understand the scriptures. Help me discern what is from You, and what is not. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

One of the more interesting things Dion mentioned encountering is that there are churches will preach on neckties. I thought for sure that must mean that they were in favor of neckties, seeing that many churches want a person to dress pretty formally. Instead, they were apparently saying neckties were a sin! Now, I would agree that it's a disadvantage in a fight, giving one's opponent something easy to grab, but calling it a sin is going a bit far :D.

Amen. So many false doctrines are in this world. The only way to discredit them is by learning what God's Word is. No wonder so many people in this nation are so confused and run amuck. They are not reading the Bible, so they have no idea what is true.

That's right and good. Personally, I know I've had to unlearn a lot of what I was taught about God so I could know Him.

Thanks Pastor Dion. My late husband told me that you can check things out by seeing if they line up in the Bible. If they don't, forget them...There are so many man made doctrines around its easy to get confused and even about the type of Bible you should read. Pastors prayer: Heavenly Father I pray you give me a hunger for Your word. Stir up that desire in me and open my mind so that I can understand the scriptures. Help me to discern what is from You and what is not. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
