Men At Work

  • Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9'11 WEB

'I am heading out to commit adultery tonight, and I will be thinking of you!', the man shouted at me as he left work that evening. I shouted back, 'You sure will!' The construction workers on the job site began to taunt me with the details of their nighttime events after they saw me say a blessing over my lunch one day. This taunting was a daily thing, but I stood my ground and would quote this verse to them.

The man shouting at me was a big guy and had been through Vietnam. He was hot tempered and bitter, and He had knocked a preacher that came to his house to pray for him, through the screen door. He would go out of his way to find me just to tell me: 'I don't believe in God!' and I would tell him 'You are going to, because every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.'

His words were just hot air, but my words cut to the heart and you could see the expression change on his face. He started out loud and belligerent, but slowly grew more and more brooding and quiet. Soon he began telling others to shut up when they picked on me. I don't know what happened to that man, but the Lord tells us in Isaiah 55:11 that His word will not return void, but will accomplish its task. Soon there was another job site with another crew of mockers to contend with.

Never be ashamed of the Lord Jesus in the work place. The name of Jesus is above all names. It is above all sin, addictions, disease, bondage, bills, unemployment, bankruptcy, divorce, loneliness, and every knee will bow at the name of Jesus in the coming days. He can melt the hardest of hearts, break any addiction, heal any disease, raise the dead, and cleanse you from any sin. Even if you have hated Him in the past, Jesus is merciful, understanding, and can set you free today with a simple prayer. Jesus is the name above all names!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please set me free from the things that are holding me back. Give me the grace and boldness to stand in the face of adversity. Fill me with Your words, and Your fire. Let me carry Your very presence wherever I go, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Amen. Too often we or I forgot how our Lord is greater than any of our problems or anyone for that matter. Be bold and strong in the Lord as written in the Bible.

Thank you Pastor Dion for another inspirational and thought provoking devotional. I must admit I didn't advertise the fact I was a Christian in my last work place.I kept it quiet rather than face discrimination from anti Christians in management and from some co workers. But people seemed to know, by what I said and how I cared for the people and it came up in conversation. I was able to then share my beliefs and at times I was able to pray for and to have interesting discussions with the residents of the rest home I worked in. I am not proud of the fact I was too scared to admit I was a Christian....I pray your prayer: Heavenly Father, please set me free from the things that are holding me back. Give me the grace and boldness to stand in the face of adversity. Fill me with Your words and Your fire. Let me carry Your very presence whereever I go, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
