Isaac entreated Yahweh for his wife, because she was barren. Yahweh was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. Genesis 25:21 WEBRebekah was barren and could not have children, but when her husband Isaac prayed for her, she became pregnant with twins. If you read the details, Isaac was for...

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed. Mark 1:34 NIVIt was early in the morning as I walked into my little prayer room. After praying for a few minutes I sat in the quiet solitude, mostly wondering how we we...

Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn't repent. 'Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Bu...

The Sand Castle

  • Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24–25 NIV

When I was young, I once built a sand castle on the beach. I put a lot of work into it, but later the tide came in and washed it all away. When the tide went back out, there was not even a trace of my masterpiece left. It failed to endure the test of time.

In this life, it is easy for other things to become the center of your attention, and then you start to build everything around that. When the tide rolls in, your life can come tumbling down with it. Jobs end, people change, beauty fades, children grow up, everything that we see with our natural eye is temporary and will change over time. All these have a place in your life, but they cannot be the center. If they are, when they change your life will, too.

Put your trust in God and do not build your life around things that change. Build it around Jesus and then you can still enjoy the rest. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matt 6:33). He is the unchanging, everlasting rock, and the ones that trust in Him will not be wiped out when the tide comes in.

maureen zane Amen!....I think the key to keep Jesus at the center of our lives is to make sure we make time to spend with Him in prayer .......not always talking.....but listening. It's amazing what we hear from God when we're silent. Thank you for your devotionals....God bless. :)

Don Jensen
Don Jensen AMEN!!  So many time people use "stuff" as their life's foundation and they wonder "WHY?" when it crumbles.  I have been there, do n e that-not a pretty picture!  With God as my foundation, my life has really changed the last few years!  I am 45 years old in my physical body, but my life with Christ is just over 3 years old.  I have struggled and failed, I have prayed and succeeded.  It mostly boils down to this: "what is the foundation you build your life upon?".  Thanks for a great message today!

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield These words remind me of how distraught I was a few weeks ago because the moths had eaten my expensive cashmere yarn! DO NOT ask how much I paid for that stuff--LOL. Only to have my "riches destroyed by moths.." Now, what does THAT remind you of? Sometimes, the parallels between the Bible and modern life are quite obvious!

Anthony Kulbicki
Anthony Kulbicki love it...My Pastor uses the houses built on sand and solid ground frequently and then had mentioned Matt 6:33 Weds eve. Then this morn, a missionary friend speaks of obeying God and not trusting on the things in life that change but on The One who never changes and Matt 6:33...Seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and everything else will be added.  God is good. Thanks Pastor Todd...we say Yes & Amen!
