The Benefits Package

  • Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:2-5 ESV

Are there any benefits? I asked when they told me the pay. I had worked so many low-end jobs that had no benefits, except for the benefit of having a job, that I was surprised that this one did. When searching for a job, something that is always involved in the decision are the benefits. Do they have insurance, retirement, paid vacations? They can be why we take the job in the first place, and we gladly make use of the benefits when they present themselves.

Serving the Lord has benefits as well. Forgiveness of your mistakes, healing for your body, redemption, steadfast love and mercy, being able to be satisfied, and renewed vigor. Often we overlook these benefits and prefer to just struggle on without them. Do you say no to free health insurance, or how about “just forget the vacation, I would rather work on through this time?”

Jesus told us to pray “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11) and James wrote “You do not have, because you do not ask” (James 4:2 ESV). When you fall down, ask for forgiveness and get up knowing that you are forgiven, it is a benefit. When you are sick, pray to be healed, it is a perk. Love and mercy, they are included in the package. It is OK to pray about your needs, and God does love you.

Marisa Jackson
Marisa Jackson Good Morning,   These morning devotionals really help me each and every day.  I am feeling very weary today, I feel kind of off; I think it's the combination of time change (setting the clocks ahead, which I really hate) and I have been a season of quiet, which is what I need; however, I am struggling with many personal and professional issues and am reaching out to anyone who can just give me a quick word of encouragement.  I know that God is with me and I am truly blessed and grateful but I just have this sense of sadness and can't quite seem to shake it!

Anthony Kulbicki
Anthony Kulbicki Hey Marisa, i hear you're in a slump...i get there sometimes and don't know why, knowing I'm blessed. So when i get the opportunity, i crank up some really good praise and worship music until I'm out of it and then continue to look for what God has goin on that He may want me in. I've been praying lately that I'd be a conduit, vessel, something that the Holy Spirit would flow into and fill and then flow through and into other ppls lives. Pray you have a blessed day.

Anthony Kulbicki Good morning and thanks Pastor Todd for the encouragement this morn. I started thinkin about the lack of benefits at my job once i began reading this and then turned that around and am thinking about the benefits i do have. So the glass can be half empty today or we can see it as half full and wow, how blessed we are!

Sunnie McPhetres
Sunnie McPhetres The biggest benefit for me is being allowed to have a relationship with Jesus!  What a privilege that is!  Even when I am feeling unworthy, He is there for me - I just have to ask!

Latonya Whitley
Latonya Whitley Good morning Pastor Todd. I just recently located about 3 months ago and I applied for every job under the sun. I even applied for jobs out of my profession. Still to no avail I have nothing. I ask God to speak to me and give me a sign but I don't know if I received one. I have a great church home out here, and the love for Christ is passionate. I don't know what else to do... Please inform me. Thank you and much blessings

Dion Todd That is when it hurts. Now we get to see who the boss is, Faith or fear. You have to wait while that anxiety dies inside of you. Keep smiling, keep praying, keep saying "I know God is going to come through", God will open a door for you before the deadline.

geneva miller
geneva miller This brings to mind a situation with a dear friend of mine who lives on a fixed budget.....we went Christmas shopping and she had a coupon she was going to use for her daughters gift, a grown daughter. Well by the time we got to the dept store where she was going to use it, she had lost it....Luckily we had only gone too 3 different stores in the same little strip mall. While we were retracing our steps, I kept getting an urge to pray about it, I thought this isn't what we are to pray for, then i felt the urge again and the verse in the Bible thats says to pray over everything, came to mind. I had already told myself, if we didn't find it I would make up the difference. Well as I was stepping out of my car as I had moved it closer to the store we were at, I said ok and I prayed for her to find the coupon, and low and behold she came out of the consignment store we had gone into, with the coupon in her hand and a big ol smile across her face.....all I could do was smile and say, thank You Lord, for all You do......;-)))))

Mayra Prado
Mayra Prado Latonya, I think sometimes God doesn't answer our prayers right away not because He isn't hearing them but because He is using the time as an opportunity for us to grow stronger than we ever thought we could.  Keep doing your part and leave the rest in His very capable hands.  My prayers are with you.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield Unfortunatley, I think we need to be completely "broken" in order to fully accept Jesus as our all-loving, all-powerful Savior.Once the little miracles start, BIG miracles will soon follow, and convince our human minds that Christ is, indeed, the only solution to any and all of our problems and difficulties. Just my opinion.

Betrina Whitfield
Betrina Whitfield Great message and on time. The way a person feels about themselves can hinder them from going before the Lord in prayer on behalf of themselves; yet, they will intercede for others without hesitance. I believe once a person realizes who they are in Christ and believe it, then praying for yourself comes easier but you have to know that you are worthy. Jesus died on the cross for us all not just a select few people. His death redeemed us from the curse of law. It set us free from sickness and disease; therefore we are already healed if we believe and have faith. God's promises are yes and in Him, Amen. His death loosed the bondage's of poverty, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, addictions, death and so on. He came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. He rose after three days with all Power. There is nothing to hard for God and there is no one who isn't worthy to be loved and cared for by Him. God can teach us how to love Him and love ourselves so that we can love others. As His children; He wants us blessed so that we can be a blessing. The devil lies to us; he doesn't solidify us. He can't steal when there is nothing to take. When we turn our backs on him and walk in the righteousness of God; that is when he starts to cut the fool on us and begin to stalk us and play the "remember when you did this" in the past game to lower our self esteem and cause us to step in the realm of self condemnation and unworthiness. But the devil is a liar and Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Life. He said that "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall done for you," (John 15:7) so yes you should go before the Lord and talk to Him about you; no matter what it is. He is here for us. He loves us. He wants and knows what is best for us. We are joint heirs to the Kingdom of God. Go to Him in prayer and faith that you will receive the Promises of your Heavenly Father. From a woman who battles with self worth; I am preaching to my own self. Purpose to stand firm in the Word. Purpose to stay in the Will of God. Purpose to stay in a right relationship with Him. Ask Him to minister to you and search your heart...all the while....Seek Him and you shall find....knock and the door will be answered....He love us...We are His children...He is our Daddy Father God.
