The Final Countdown

  • Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me; declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done; saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure; Isaiah 46:9 WEB

During a sci-fi night at our house, we watched some heroes frantically trying to disarm a bomb that was quickly counting down to zero. 10, 9, 8, 7, it looked like certain death for our friends, but suddenly the timer stopped at one. Then I thought, 'Ah, it always stops at one!' All of the drama, fear and panic was a waste of energy, though it was exciting.

We often wrestle with things like this in our mind, silently. Even while others are talking to us, we will be mulling over the pending disaster that we just know is coming and is right around the corner. God is the only one that sees your end from the beginning. He knows what is coming and how to prepare you for it.

So many times in my life, I have worried about what was coming. I could see the timer counting down to the deadline and the closer that it got, the more nervous that I became. Every single time, God came through, and the timer never got to zero. If it did, then it turned out to be nothing.

Once after being out of work for several months, when we could no longer pay the utilities, we were packing to move out of our home. On that Tuesday morning He spoke to me. By the end of the week I had the best job that I ever had, and someone suddenly stepped in and paid all of our bills for the month. Once again, the countdown never reached zero.

That fear that we carry in the back of our mind, the one that will destroy everything that we know, is not gonna happen. Though it looks terrifying and there appears to be no way to avoid it, the timer will stop at one. It will never happen. It will not take place. God will defuse the entire situation. Don't give up yet, and don't trade your faith for fear, for He has not given up on you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that you bring a peace over my mind today. Touch me with Your presence and let me know that I am not alone. I look to You for protection and provision. Remember me Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Good morning, we are back :)! We lost power and internet for three days, which caused both the website and our daily devotional to be down. We will be sending out a more detailed newsletter about what happened, but for now, we just want to say, thank you for your prayers and for being part of Refreshing Hope Ministries!

Today devotion reminds me of a story on NY Times this morning about hurricane Matthew. This young and struggling couple was so afraid of the hurricane and evacuated as instructed out of their rented long term Motel 8 room in Myrtle Beach SC. They ended up going to a relative house in Lumberton NC, which was supposely safe and way inland. But, the flood there was unprecedented and totally flooded their only car to its roof and destroyed their only mean of transportation. The husband thanks God keeping them safe but said they should have stay in Myrtle Beach.

How awful, though glad they were ok! It's definitely difficult to know what to do, unless one can hear a clear word from Him, especially when being told to evacuate. We were not in the evac zone, but if it had gone on for a couple of weeks (which is the estimate for complete power restoration), we might have wished we had :D.

Me and my family are going through so much stress right now,and when i read your message today,it was like how did you know this,Lord, but then as the message says the Lord knows every thing,I pray so hard for some kind of a rescue, some kind of light at the end of the tunnel, and then i read your message today, life can be so hard, but as my Mom always said if you think you have problems, just turn around and there is someone got worse ones than you,and i know that, and i pray for all of these people also,I ask the Lord to just speak to me,tell me where to turn, but i will always put my trust in the Lord,so can I please get some prayers for my situation? Thanks you Dion and God Bless.

Oooooooo weeeeeeee!!!!! Pastor Dion, you are PREACHINGGGG "up in here" today!!!!!! (Forgive my ebonics. Lol. Lol.) I could feast on this word for a week; no a year!!! My God, my God!!!! I've ALWAYS known you to be the most powerful of devo writers. But this time, you have outdone yourself! The anointing is SO strong on this devo today.... Oooooo weeee!!! You have NO idea how that ministered to my soul. And when I look back over my life and see how the timer stopped at one, and see how God intervened and prevailed, and see how my Almighty Father flexed His muscles and showed off for me, and see how He protected and provided in such special, ingenious, and creative ways.... there are NO words to say except HALLELUJAAAAAAHHHHH from the very pit of my soul!!! This devo has got me stirred up and fired up. My friend told me that I remind him of Ms. Clara from the movie "War Room". I sure feel like her right now. Oooooo weeeee, gloryyyyyy!!!! He is a MIGHTY God! And a GOOD, GOOD FATHER!!!! Who am I, Lord, that You are mindful of me? I give You glory, Great God, for You have loved us with an everlasting love!!!! You gave Your very Son for us!!!! You gave us access to YOU...to Your very throne!!!! And You don't upbraid us or condemn us!!! Your arms are open, and YOU are actually longing for us!!!! Ooooo weeeee!!! What a love, what a love, what a love!!!! Glory to God!!!! Thank you, Pastor Dion, for continually allowing the Lord to use you so mightily. The anointing on your life is an oil poured onto your head and dripping down your beard (as it says in Psalm 133:2) to us...and boy is it overflowing!!! Hallelujaaaahhhh!!!!

I needed this today you spoke right to my heart. I moved back to Ohio one year ago and have been living with my daughter. We decided that she would sell her small house and we would find something bigger to suit our needs.  Because of some bad choices I have made over the years I am unable to qualify to be on the the montage with her so it has limited our budget. Now the house has sold and we have been unable to find another. We will have to be out by the end of November but we just keep praying and we know God will come through but sometimes you get a little anxious

Hi Marcia. I am in a somewhat similar situation. And it is scary. I love this message. It does help to remember that God will stop that timer and not let it hit zero. I recall MANY times, MANY, that He stopped that timer at the last minute. I totally understand that anxiety though. I feel it too. I can recall all those times, and I can KNOW that God has these situations for me under control, but I can NOT shake that anxiety. I have a lot going on and it's HARD to not feel a little un-nerved.

Blessings Marcia...being on the edge is no fun.  I know the Lord knows.  Praying about it is like is says in the Word that we can keep on knocking on His door till He gets up and gives the bread.  Just adding that I see Jesus is our bread of life so I will pray in our circumstances and remember you also.  It is hour by hour I always say and do what I can waiting to see what the Lord will do.

Thank you, Rhonda! We are not that close to the ocean, so most of the storms don't affect us that much. Last year, for instance, there was a lot of flooding, but we didn't lost power to any significant degree. Dion says the last time that happened was during Hugo in 1989 (devastating), though he said Floyd was quite bad in 1999 because of all the rain that softened the ground.

Thank you for this timely message.  My husband's trucking company is in operational changes.  What a louder mess.  His hours are less & a big meeting went on behind close doors.  They are under roof of YRC who owns my husband's company & many others.  Also seems to be a lullin freight at this time.  So we are feeling the test.  A nut shell game.  Or the other game...pay Peter or Paul.  I know to trust the Lord, to trust Him & thank Him.  Do what can be done in the moment.
