Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, "Don't fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel." When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, "It is the king of Israel!" Therefore they turned around to fight against him. But Jehoshap...

Restoration

  • David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Yahweh loved him; and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah, for Yahweh's sake. 2 Samuel 12:24 WEB

David and Bathsheba were the talk of town. They had an affair while her husband was serving in the military. She became pregnant, and her husband Uriah was killed to cover it up. This was worse than most church scandals today.

Though David went through a very bad time because of his actions, God restored them all. They got married, had a son named Solomon, and the LORD loved him. David, Bathsheba, and Solomon are listed in the lineage of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:6). God loved David before and after this incident, but he did have to repent in order to move forward with God (Psalms 51).

In my own life, the Lord told me to prepare myself for ministry. I went through Bible college, earned my degree, and looked forward to a bright future. Later though, I had to endure a long messy divorce, which brought out the worst in everyone involved. Wrecked and humbled, I was convinced that the ministry path had ended, that the ship had sailed, so I concentrated on my computer business.

Years later when He was ready, or I was, He ended the computer business and led me straight into the ministry. Now, I am here writing this devotional and using the skills that I learned during that time of preparation to build an online church.

People fall, they repent, and God restores them. If you have made mistakes in your life, know that you are in good company. Repent, and don't worry about the disapproval of those around you. Even though David and Bathsheba are in the lineage of Jesus, they would probably not be welcome in many local churches. I am not saying that we should view sin lightly, but that God is more forgiving than His people.

Likewise, be kind to those around you who have fallen. Often we will hang on to what they have done forever, long after the Lord has forgiven them. Though what they have done may have been as serious as David's sin or even worse, you do not want bitterness to live in you.

Face it, life is messy. People are not perfect and sometimes they are seriously flawed. Still, if they truly repent, God will restore them. If you have fallen, repent and get up. This is not the end. Though the righteous fall seven times, they get up. God restores the fallen when they call out to Him.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your grace and mercy. Unless You had sent Your Son Jesus, none of us would be saved. None of us can earn Your salvation. Forgive me of my sins. I forgive others and let them go. Wash me and cleanse me from all bitterness, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Amen! The way to humility in our faith is failure. When we fall hard we learn true humility. We learn that we can do nothing in or own strength, that we are powerless to change ourselves. We learn to surrender to Abba Father. This is the way up, by falling down on our knees and letting our Abba Father raise us up to be more and do more than we ever imagined.

This was an awesome devotion. God, has really taught me the power of forgiveness. A few months ago I had to walk through some things, that had happened earlier in my life and I just couldn't "forgive myself" God had me show Him where in His word does it say to forgive yourself. It doesn't because when Christ went to the cross it was completed. I needed to accept God's forgiveness and then let it go.

I'm so thankful for Gods restoration in my life! 12 years ago I never would have dreamt that I would be a pastors wife! I should have been sitting in prison on felony charges! I thank God for the police officers mercy on me by not pressing charges! God knows the plans He has for me! Thank you Pastor Dion for the reminder of Gods forgiveness and restoration!

Mr. Todd, there is more that God wants to do in your life. He wants you to understand that true repentance is not only feeling sorry for your sin, but it is turning away from and going in the opposite direction of it. Sir, if you and your first wife were each other's 1st spouse or neither of you had a previous spouse still alive when you married, then God joined you and nothing can separate you except physical death. You are still her husband and she is still your wife, regardless of any piece of paper signed by an earthly judge that says you aren't. According to Jesus, if you are remarried you are in adultery. Do not let Satan deceive you into thinking your remarriage is justified. There is no justification for remarriage. No matter what your 1st wife did (or is still doing), the ONLY thing you have the right to do is love and be faithful to her! If you are remarried, you need to repent of your adultery and that means you need to get out of it. Please, please don't let Satan fool you into thinking that God is okay with your remarriage just because your personal life and ministry are blessed. It's a lie and it will cost you your soul.
