When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Matthew 8...

Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you,' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against...

Skeletons in The Closet

  • The man said, 'They have left here, for I heard them say, 'Let's go to Dothan.' ' Joseph went after his brothers, and found them in Dothan. They saw him afar off, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him. They said to one another, 'Behold, this dreamer comes. Come now therefore, and let's kill him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say, 'An evil animal has devoured him.' We will see what will become of his dreams.' Genesis 37:17 WEB

Joseph had it all. He was his father's favorite, God had given him dreams showing that he would be a ruler, his father had given him an ornate coat of many colors, and he was a prince. Life should have been great, but his brothers were very jealous and most of them wanted to kill him. Reuben tried to save him and got him thrown into an empty well. The only thing that stopped them was his brother Judah who told them, 'after all he is our brother, our own flesh', so they all compromised and sold him as a slave.

Joseph was just a boy and he had no control over this. He was just doing what his father had told him. It was not his fault that bad things were done to him by others, even his loved ones, his immediate family. He was not at fault, and his father still loved him dearly. He went from a prince to a dark pit, to being a slave, to being falsely accused of attempted rape and then serving time in prison. Joseph's life went into a downward spiral. It was a very dark time for him, but it did not end there. Eventually, Joseph became the ruler of Egypt, second only to Pharaoh himself and the dreams that God had given him, came true.

When people are abused as a child they often blame themselves. Things that happened to you when you were young were not your fault. You had no control over that! Lay it down. Like Joseph, forgive, and in doing so you will free yourself as well. Do not let things that happened years ago, that you had no control over, drain your energy today. Your Father loves you and wants you to focus on your future, not your unchangeable past.

Prayer: Father, I thank You that I am breathing today. Please help me follow the dreams that You have given me. Bring them back to my memory and inspire me. Make what is important to You, important to me. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Letting go of the past is very difficult.  It becomes a part of who you are; yet Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace is always there guiding you, protecting you and loving you through it all!  I will admit, that the past has yet to be washed totally from my mind and spirit but God's Grace and love gives me the strength to continue to move forward and let go of the past!  Believe me that is not easy but with God's guidance and continued love, I am taking it one day at a time!!  Amen!!

I don't know if it's ever completely gone from our own minds, as long as we have memories. All we can do is avoid letting it have power over us, which is usually journey of ups and downs. With His grace, we will all succeed!

I really needed this, and was praying about the dreams He's given me just this morning, beccause I end of so tired after work that it's hard to me to do anything to work toward them. Still, it's hard to convince myself that there was nothing I could have done as a child to protect myself.

Thank you for the encouraging words. So true that our past can be draining if we let it. I finally decided with God's help the past is the past. Praise God for his eternal love.
