The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn't dwell in temples made with hands, neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things. Acts 17:24 WEBWhen I was growing up, we us...

RHM Devotional: Heroes and Monsters from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about the potential of being a Hero, or a Monster, that exists inside each one of us. We get to choose. Once when Jesus was preaching from a boat, He told a parable about a man that sowed wheat in H...

He said to them, 'Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.' Mark 16:15 WEBJesus spoke these words to the eleven Apostles before He ascended to heaven. There is so much that could be said about this, but today we cover 'The Gospel.' The word Gospel means 'glad tidings, good...

The Repetition Competition

  • For you don't delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. O God, you will not despise a broken and contrite heart. Psalms 51:16 WEB

When I first came to the Lord, I was so ecstatic that I wanted to make up for everything that I had ever done wrong in the past. I enrolled in Bible college and like many others there, I developed a very legalistic view. I fasted for weeks, gave all that I had, tried to memorize the Bible, prayed all day, and listened to the Bible all night. I wanted to earn my salvation and prove that my dedication to the Lord was stronger than everyone elses. It soon became a repetition competition, where we just repeated the things that we had heard someone else say.

Oh I knew a lot about Jesus, I just did not know Him.I talked a lot about Jesus, but I never really talked to Him. I sang a lot about Jesus, but I did not sing to Him. Jesus said that there would be those who called Him, "Lord, Lord" and He would say, 'I never knew you.' That was me in a nutshell.

The Lord eventually broke me down to nothing, stripped away everything that I had, and separated me from everyone that I knew. It turned out to be the best thing that could have happened. I decided that I must have disappointed Him somehow. I must have taken too many wrong turns in life and He gave up on me. I had many excuses as to why He did not use me in ministry, but the whole time, He was preparing me.

Finally I dropped my 'Church Face' and started to just be 'Dion.' I began to involve God in my everyday life and talked with Him like a friend. I learned to relax, and to include Him in whatever decision I had to make. Only then did a relationship begin to develop between us, and that became life changing. Like the tiny mustard seed, faith will grow.

Attending church, fasting, praying, giving, reading the Bible, singing, is all good in moderation, but do not neglect Him while doing it. Believe me, you can, because I have done it. I encourage you to make Jesus a part of your normal life each day. Be a real person, serving God the best you can. When you stumble, repent and get back up. Be honest with Him, for He already knows who you really are.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for loving me. Help me be a better person, and make me stable. Lead me to where You want me and open the door that You want me to go through. Come into my life and be a part of it today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Well the door to that job was not the one but I know God has the plan and I just need to be the patient one. Thank you for this reminder! I want so badly for financial stability again and yet God says I must wait and keep my faith... trying everyday to have faith and keep a good atitude... it's exhausting! But I know God is with me so I keep trying :) God bless

Keep the faith and the hope.  You will have the best job ever Dianna.  That is what I keep on praying for my son.  Truly, it is so exhausting when you do not get the answer yet, but do not let it be for that is the work of the devil to snatch us from from the LORD GOD.  HE is in control and in charge.  Just believe and we shall receive it.

Jesus said that the religious people of His day believed eternal life was in the scriptures, but He said no. Eternal life is to know God, it can be done!

I just busted into tears after reading this! God used you Pastor Dion to speak to me on this very issue i am having ! I sent Sylvia a message seeking her insight on how she and yourself studied the bible. She gave me feedback which I was grateful for. I bought this one book that was suppose to teach how to read and memorize my whole bible within a couple of months using the rote memorization method. I tried it but it was fulfilling. Right now my husband's car is in the shop and he works 2 jobs so I am unable to attend church like I want to or shall I say feel guilty because I am not in attendance. I watch online on Saturday and watch your service on Sunday. I am rambling on, but my point i am trying to make is God gave me this teachable moment Thursday afternoon when I prayed in my prayer closet to just be myself and HE  will show me how to study my bible at my own pace. Then here is GOD using you Pastor Dion  to make sure that I  understand what HE is telling me! I thank HIM so much for putting this ministry into my life because it has done great things and will continue..

The coolest thing about a relationship with Jesus is that sometimes I feel His presence so strong in the most unusual places. I used to think many years ago that I felt His presence strongest at church. As I developed a closer relationship with Him, I find Him everywhere. Sometimes its while driving my car, or sometimes its walking down the street, sometimes its in a movie theater, on an airplane or in a store. He shows up wherever I am.

Yes, having the "religion" without the relationship is useless--only a vital, life-giving personal relationship with Jesus will help us grow into the people God designed us to be.  Thank you for your openness and honesty, Pastor Dion. God bless!

"Oh I knew a lot about Jesus, I just did not know Him.I talked a lot about Jesus, but I never really talked to Him. I sang a lot about Jesus, but I did not sing to Him. Jesus said that there would be those who called Him, "Lord, Lord" and He would say, 'I never knew you.' That was me in a nutshell."

This is exactly ME. I tried to read all the verses and beautiful inspirational qoutes in Social Media.  I try and type AMEN when asked to do so.  But it doesn"t really leave a mark on my heart.  I listen and watch the ministry sermons in my TV and I do love listening to them though and learn a lot from them.I Asked OUR LORD GOD to please teach me how to pray and how can I have the best relationship with him.  Like you Pastor I am just being ME.  I talk to OUR LORD GOD anytime, whether I am cooking, washing the dishes  cleaning,in the washroom, closing the curtains during the nightime, opening them in the mnorning, when walking, when I wake up in the morning or whatever I am doing when I feel that I have to pray. But now I know the answer Pastor.  That everytime I say my simple prayers and talked to HIM I know HE is there with me for I start talking and praying.

Thank you for today's devotion Pastor. I got the answer to my question.  IS GOD LISTENING AND WITH ME WHEN I PRAY? HE DOES AND HE IS LISTENING TO ME.  May our LORD GOD BLESS US ALL RHM FAMILY.

Thank you Pastor Dion. This really spoke to me. I have been struggling with this as well. I pray your prayer and thank you for your honesty.I was disappointed that I couldn't pray out loud like many of the Church people. I didnt have the right words and felt inadequate. I talk to God often doing everyday things but didn't know if He was listening or if He was giving me the answers I was getting. Your message has clarified things for me.Thank you for your insight. Blessings to you and Sylvia.

I loved today's devotional I was separated from a lot of people when my father was ill before he had passed away. God has prepared a life for me that I was not aware of. Now I am doing a lot better and learning to be patient and wait for God. Somethings I did not understand but as I have patience I have more peace of mind.

It is so true what your message said today....there is such a difference when you have "heart knowledge", rather than just head knowledge of Jesus ! Makes all the difference in your relationship with Him! :)
