He entered into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, 'Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch.' Simon answered him, 'Master, we wor...

He told them this parable. 'Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, wouldn't leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it?' Yahweh spoke to Manasseh, and to his people; but they didn't listen. Therefore Yahweh brought on them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. When he was in distress, he begged Yahweh his God, and humbled himse...

A Carrot on a Stick

  • Samson said to his father, 'Get her for me, for she pleases me well.' But his father and his mother didn't know that it was of Yahweh; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines ruled over Israel. Judges 14:3 WEB

Samson wanted to marry a Philistine woman and it upset his parents terribly. 'What on earth is wrong with that kid?' his parents must have thought. Yet this desire was given to him by the Lord. The 'She pleases me well' that Samson felt came directly from the Lord. Samson's destiny was down this path and he was drawn to it just like a horse can be led by a carrot on a stick. His parents did not understand his passion, or his desire because it was not their calling. The Lord was leading him into his destiny while Samson thought that he was following his own path.

When I was growing up, I had such a strong desire to work with computers, even though I grew up on a farm and we did not own one. It seemed so impossible that I did not even pray about it and no one that I knew shared an interest in them. But that desire never left, and when I eventually gathered enough parts, I built my own computer that was housed in a cardboard box for a casing. Fast forward twenty years and I find myself spreading the gospel over the Internet, using computers. It was no accident; I was led here for such a time as this.

That nagging desire that you have that will not go away may very well be from the Lord, and will one day be used for His purpose in a more distinct way. He respects our free will, but He will often lead us with something that we desire, just like He did with Samson. Like us, you may one day look back and find that what you once considered a hobby, has become your ministry.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for guiding my steps. Lead me into all that You have for me and help me see past the parts that I don't understand. Fulfill Your will in my life and put me where You want me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Amen! I've been praying prayers like this for more than a year now and you know what? I can look back and see just how guided I have been! God has taken a hobby and a passion for photography and given it purpose! I didn't even realize I had a secret desire to write :) that revelation came about through much prayer. Here I am though, 9 months after I left a 17+ year career to step out in faith and find my calling, still praying for guidance and discernment, still searching for stable income, but I am now a published author with a plan to publish more :) The road is long and each step I take is a step in faith and a learning lesson, but I know I am being guided and God is with me through it all! At this point I can only be grateful for his guidance, answered prayers, provisions through the storms and lean times, his daily heart blessings he sends my way, his continued favor and ways out when it's seems like none, his unending love he has or us all, his hedge of protection around my family, and the fact that I can call him FATHER <3 Thank you Pastor Dion, this was a wonderful message! God bless <3   Pastor's Prayer: Father, I thank You for guiding my steps. Lead me into all that You have for me and help me see past the parts that I don't understand. Fulfill Your will in my life and put me where You want me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Amen! My nagging desire was to write. God gave me that desire at a very young age. Now in my golden years I am writing and publishing more than ever. Where this desire will lead me, I do not know, but God does. I do know that I am happiest when I am writing.

This is so true! God did not call us to use someone elses calling. He will put the desire so strong in our hearts, we jut have to reconise it and act on that desire.
