The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?" Trapped

  • Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, from the traps of the workers of iniquity. Let the wicked fall together into their own nets while I pass by. Psalms 141:9 WEB

A simple but very effective trap that has been used through the ages is the pit trap. Hunters dig a deep pit and then place sharpened sticks in the bottom of it. They cover it with foliage and place something tantalizing in the center to lure the prey to it. When the prey goes after the bait, they fall into the pit and are caught in the trap. Something that looked really good, turned out to be hiding something very bad.

While we are busy trying to live a Christian life, the enemy is busy digging pits for us to fall into. he tries to place tantalizing treats before us and if we fall for it, he will expose us and then try to draw as much attention to our failure as possible. Fallen Christians being laughed at by the world are the devil's delight. Broken homes, broken people, and various addictions all started with a thought. When people fall, they often become trapped in an endless loop and just cannot seem to get out of it.

Maintain a healthy balance in your life. When you start feeling those little warnings from the Holy Spirit, back away. Will the Lord let you fall into a trap? Apparently, because we get there by following our own lusts and desires, not His. A fish goes after the bait because something inside of them wants it. If they are not interested, then the bait does not work.

David prayed for the Lord to keep him from the traps of His enemies (Ps 141:9). Jesus told us in the model prayer, 'And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one' (Matthew 6:13). Be watchful of the tantalizing treats in your path today, and if you have already fallen, know that the Lord can still lead you out of it. It is not over yet.

Prayer: Father, please keep from falling into the traps of my enemies. Help me to see them clearly for what they are and avoid them. Please send the Comforter like You promised and cover me with Your peace, love, and grace today. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Leslie, That is awesome! One of my favorite songs: If you think you have reached your limit yet. It's not over yet!! Not sure if that's the title, but I sure hear those words a lot, especially when I get in my car. One of the first things I do, is thank God that I have a car that runs, then I ask him to send me a song on the radio that I need to hear. It happens so often that I know it is HIM. Praises to our Lord!! He has better plans for us and we just have to be patient until he reveals them.

I have found thanking God for the Holy Spirit and asking Him to keep my feet on the straight and narrow path that leads to Him, works amazingly well. I also ask that I hear His small still voice , loud and clear. I ask this everyday for myself and my loved ones. So many times He whispers to me to avoid something, or to not speak, or to not be angry or whatever. He leads me on the paths of righteousness for his namesake. Is is hard for me? not at all, because I have surrendered complete control to Him and He is working through me helping me to do these things. It is quite easy all I have to do is listen and obey!

Thanks, Pastor Dion.

These words really got to me today. It has taken me awhile to get my computer on, but finally did. The first words I usually read every day are your devotions and I was getting frustrated waiting on the computer..lol..It is just so amazing how God uses so many vessels to reach his children. Keep them coming.

Thank you for this timely message which spoke to me today. The promises of winning things online are tantalising, but like the pit trap you talked about, there are hidden traps in these things as well. Help me to be aware of traps Lord and help me to avoid them. Keep me from temptation Lord. Amen.

The enemy is all around and the traps are well laid. When you see them for what they are, however, they look like foolish distractions that someone who is aligned with God will cheerfully walk away from. God has far greater treasures whose worth are inestimable.
