Brothers, I don't regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do: forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13 WEBI was at a very dark p...

Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31 NIVAfter coming out of the grocery store, I found that I had parked way out in the parking lot and did not really feel like taking the buggy all the way back to the store. I saw a few other carts nearby that people had left in the parking lot....

For you don't delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. O God, you will not despise a broken and contrite heart. Psalms 51:16 WEBWhen I first came to the Lord, I was so zealous that I wanted to make up for everyt...

The Wonderful You

  • Which commandment is the greatest of all? Jesus answered, 'The greatest is, 'Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one: you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. The second is like this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:28 WEB

When they asked Jesus what the greatest commandment was, He told them: 'Love God, and Love others.' This is first and foremost, but after that, be yourself. Some of the greatest people that I know are uniquely themselves. They try and be no one else and resist trying to fit into a Christian template that someone else created in their minds. Love God, love others, be who He created you to be.

God created you with your personality, characteristics, skills, likes and dislikes, wants and desires. He crafted you with His loving hands to be who you are. You are not a mistake. Do not throw your uniqueness away by trying to be someone else. You can be a mediocre them, or a wonderful you.

I love electronics, always have. I also love the word of God and when I was young, I wanted to be in the ministry. When I tried to follow the path of others, I was like a fish out of water and every door was closed. Most of the people that I went to Bible college with were proud to not own a computer then. People associated it with the mark of the beast and they had no vision of it being used for good.

I was on the other side of the spectrum and my desk is commonly covered with broken computers. Macs, Linux, Windows, I use all three every day to do what we do here. Accompanied by Virtual machines, iPads, Androids, Chrome books, and a Raspberry Pi or two. The side is usually off of my computer with a couple of hard drives hanging out of it.

When the Lord finally pushed us into ministry, it became an online church and it fits who we are. I am no longer a fish out of water in ministry, but my peers would be if they were forced to be me. We are created differently and to fulfill a purpose that others cannot. Be yourself, and it is never too late for you to get started.

No matter what you have done, you can be forgiven. No matter how bad you have broken it, it can be repaired. No matter how far away that you have drifted, He is waiting for your return. God loves you and He still has a plan for your life. Do not look down on yourself because you do not fit inside of a mold that someone else created. Their clothes were not meant to fit on you.

Prayer: Father, lead me into all that You have for me. Help me find the place that I belong. Put Your desires in my heart, speak to me, and through me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Good morning and thank you all so much for being part of Refreshing Hope Ministries! May you all have a very blessed Sunday :)!

Jim Jarrell
Jim Jarrell One day I was told I must recognize my life was a mess and the only way to repair it was to turn my will over to a power greater than myself. God had been waiting for me to do just that through His Son Jesus. I will not say it has been an easy road, but here I am 26 years later saying as long as I let God lead, things just turn out good. Only when I say to God, I think I can handel it now, does life go crazy again. Just let God be God and you be who God created you to be. Good word Dion!

Twila Stierwalt This is the best devotion you have written, pastor Dion. This is where true joy is! I thank God for creating me the way He did, I know that I am special because I know who made me. I am me and not any one else, and God wants me to use the talents He created me with, to use to glorify Him.

Nanette McLane
Nanette McLane I tried to "fit in" for so many years, but once I surrendered my life to a power greater than myself and stopped trying to control the show my life has been so much better.  I "fit in" with Jesus and that is fine with me.

Kevin J. Eck This devotional is reaffirming! For years I have tried to be someone I wasn't! This lead me down paths that I should not have been on! For some years now, walking with our Lord, I am slowly being formed to be who God wants me to be.

Mary Pat Taylor
Mary Pat Taylor Thank you for this!  I rarely fit in most places and in most groups of people, including most Christians.  I am happiest when donig the things that God put a love for in my heart, and sometimes I feel like I screwed up and ruined my chance to have a life and career doing what I love best and what I'm best at.  It's a daily struggle trying to get back on track. I don't know that can be realized but I faith that God can do the impossible, including healing my life from the mistakes I've made.

Deleted Member Amen, God can do the impossible, please know that what is in the past, is there, never to be remembered by Jesus anymore. Once we are forgiven, are sins are washed away and Jesus no more remembers any of them. Just put your trust in Jesus, and accept yourself for who you are and if God wants you to change anything He will help you through it. Love, prayers and many many blessings my precious friend.

Carol Pady Amen! We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. Therefor we are expected to love ourself, not to hate ourself, judge ourself, condemn ourself. We are to accept who we are as different as we may be and love it.

Chris Dibbern
Chris Dibbernedited: May 22, 2016 Thank you, Pastor. It's funny... I was hiking and spelunking with a couple friends, yesterday (Maquoketa Caves, IA). One of them kept saying "I wonder... I wonder..." and her friend accused her of wondering about everything. Then, I started saying it, too-- I wonder, I wonder. Eventually, I concluded outloud that, well, "we must be wonderful!" :-) :-) I love how the Holy Spirit weaves these things! :-) P.S. We were talking about the Greatest Commandment in the car ride home, too. Thanks for everything you guys do!

Kath Paro
Kath Paro Dion~ I didn't read this until my day was almost closed.  I am so glad He told me to pause and read.  I've almost always felt like I didn't fit.  Today I am growing and finding my places in the world.  Today I stepped out of myself and will be teaching a lesson at our vacation bible school.  A year ago I would have never dreamed of doing anything of the sort.  Today I volunteered!  God has plans for me. I'm waiting for the next floor plan!
