Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn't repent. 'Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Bu...

The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn't dwell in temples made with hands, neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things. Acts 17:24 WEBWhen I was growing up, we us...

RHM Devotional: Heroes and Monsters from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about the potential of being a Hero, or a Monster, that exists inside each one of us. We get to choose. Once when Jesus was preaching from a boat, He told a parable about a man that sowed wheat in H...

Praying Like Jabez

  • Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, 'Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border! May your hand be with me, and may you keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!' God granted him that which he requested. 1 Chronicles 4:10 WEB

Some people that I have met are too ashamed to ask God for anything. They feel that they have messed up so bad in life that they are lucky to be on the bus at all. Others tend to think that God is our great Santa Claus in heaven, or a well trained pet to command. Their life centers around themselves, instead of God. Neither view is correct and balance is one of the keys to a happy life.

The enemy will try and get you out of balance in order to hinder your prayers. Either you do not pray at all, or you pray for the wrong thing, or with the wrong motive. James wrote:

'You don't have, because you don't ask. You ask, and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures' (James 4:3 WEB).

There is nothing wrong with asking God to bless you, prosper you, and keep you safe. When you come to the Lord, your past is forgiven and you become a child of God with all the benefits and perks that entails. You are not a second class citizen in His family, and you get to sit at the table with everyone else.

If anyone on earth has a right to ask God for something, you now do. Sister Bertha Better-than-you, is actually not better than you. You are forgiven and can pray for the things that you need. Jesus told us to pray 'give us today our daily bread.' Ask God for the things that you need. When Jabez asked, God granted his request. Sure there needs to be balance, but what if Jabez had not prayed at all? Pray like Jabez.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for all of Your blessings on my life. I pray that You extend my borders and means to help others. Give me Your wisdom to manage my life, family, work, relationships, and time. Lead me and never let me stray from Your path, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Jim Jarrell I often wonder why so many people who call themselves a Christian seem not to understand that their calling was God's idea to begin with. If God is incabelable of making mistakes, then why do they have such a hard time asking God for the things they need? I love what you wrote this morning Dion, God is just waiting to see us ask Him in humility.

Dion Todd That is very true and I often have to remind myself that I didn't plan any of this or intend to be here writing the details about my life, this was all His idea. I had other plans for our future, but now here we are. He has provided for each thing that we needed, when we needed it.

Carol Pady Amen! Thank you for this devotion Pastor Dion! The more I incorporate prayer into my life, the more smoothly my life goes. Even when a fiery trail comes, there is a peace in knowing that I have given it to my Abba Father in prayer. A Jesus centered life includes much prayer. It becomes a natural step in every moment of your life , to walk with Abba and talk with Him constantly. He leads us, we follow and life is never so sweet as time we spend in prayer!

Kath Paro
Kath Paro Dion~ This devotion helped me this morning.  I went to a meeting, we had a moment of silence and I asked My Higher Power for several things.  I asked Him for serenity, guidance of my words, organization of my words and wisdom when I shared my thoughts and feelings. He gave it to me!  I made sense and expressed exactly what I wanted, it was His words and I can't remember what I shared!  LOL  I read the devotional but did not have time to share on it and I'm grateful I didn't.  It is more on target now. Amen!

I dad on earth was always my dad and I don't know why I always looked at it that way. I'm sure it might have been my mother. She loved the Father with all her heart. She wrote sme beautiful poems about the Lord in her life time. Blessings to y'all.

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler Pastor Dion, I don't understand enlarge our borders?  God can do anything!  But I shy away from that verse.  After years of ministry & good health it all came to a halt in my 50's.  Charlie would pray that prayer & I would go no no.  I can hardly get around or be there on time why ask for boarders to be stretch?  God knows.  He is my Savior & surely want to do as He ask but can't think of anything to ask for we are blessed.  I am sure I could put a list together but it is as He desires.  Desire to help others to know Jesus, help others in some way and have a great husband too. Wait to hear from you Dion.  Thanks

Sharon Leonard
Sharon Leonard Just wanted to thank everyone for the prayers... Still need them now too. Rich needs prayer also. I wanted to keep the house and land to put 5 small cottages on it to help people get with nature to heal. I got the house, need finances to keep it. We were asked and told by the judge to sell the 13 + acres with a cottage on it. Plus I have a bunch of cats and dogs that are all rescue animals. Some have been with us since 2004. They are my friends and companions that have helped me be calm. I don't want anything to happened to them because of this. I really need a miracle to be able to keep it all together and to remind myself there is a purpose for all of this. It's Gods timing and plan not mine.  Gods Will Be Done In My Life...  AMEN !
