He told them this parable. 'Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, wouldn't leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it?' Luke 15:3 WEB
When I first got serious about serving the Lord Jesus, I was a professional musician and played music somewhere almost every night. I played everywhere, in festivals, weddings, rodeos, bars, and in the praise team at church.
I had enrolled in Bible College, and playing music helped pay for it. The southern religious side of me was ashamed to be seen in a bar, so I prayed about leaving music but always felt 'No', or 'Not yet.' I even went to my pastor and had him pray and he told me, 'Not yet.' So I reluctantly stayed where I was.
One night while performing in a bar at around 2 A.M, I suddenly felt the Holy Spirit's presence descend on me heavily like a warm blanket. I actually asked the Holy Spirit, 'What are You doing here?' because I was very surprised that He showed up in the bar.
Scriptures started coming to my mind, and the guitar player across the stage caught my attention. I knew they were for him, but I had learned a lesson about pursuing people with scripture that didn't want to hear it. It would merely push them away. So I told the Lord 'Break time is coming up and I am going to sit in my car. If you want me to witness to him, then send him out to me.'
When the band went on break, everyone headed to the bar for a drink, and I headed out to my car. I opened my Bible to the scripture that had come to me and sat there reading it. There was a tap on the window, it was the guitar player, and he started asking me questions about the Bible. I was already on the right page and I began sharing the scriptures with him.
This person came under such conviction that they started trembling. When I met them Wednesday at practice, they were still shaking and in tears. We knelt down together and I led them to Jesus. My friend wouldn't come to church, so God went after him. Soon after, the Lord released me from the band.
I learned that sometimes we can be too religious to do God's work. God had snuck me into the band to reach those inside it, while I thought that it may have been against His will for me to even be there. Quite a few times in my life, God has placed me in the center of a group of lost ones, and then changed the environment around me.
God will use you wherever you are standing if there is a lost sheep near by. Where is God today? He is Looking for the lost sheep. What is important to God today? Finding the lost sheep. You may be where you are because He chose you to reach someone there. After all, it is not all about us is it? If you are a lost sheep, know that He is looking for you.
Prayer: Father, help me to see those that need You, like You do. Fill me with Your wisdom, speak to me and through me. Help me bring in the lost, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
