If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, "Don't handle, nor taste, nor touch" (all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imp...

An extraordinary event unfolds in Matthew chapter 14, one that is unparalleled elsewhere in the Bible: a common fisherman defying the laws of nature by walking on water. This miraculous feat wasn't performed by Jesus, but rather by Peter, a ...

By My Spirit

  • Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, 'This is the word of Yahweh to Zerubbabel, saying, 'Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says Yahweh of Hosts.' Zechariah 4:6 WEB

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. After getting laid off from a great paying job as a foreman in a factory, I spent an humbling year polishing brass by hand at a buffing machine for one-third of the pay. My skin became green and black from the dust. The work was mind-numbingly boring, but I knew that God wanted me there. I stuck it out, I listened to the Bible all day, fasted about as much as I ate, and prayed for hours.

At night, I worked on computers. It had become a passionate hobby and I had parts scattered everywhere that I had gathered, which I assembled in various configurations and then disassembled so I could do it again. I loved electronics and working with computers, but I had no education and had dropped out of high school. I could only dream about those that were lucky enough to work with computers every day for a living, but I never, ever dreamed that I would.

My job at the brass plant ended when it merged with another company and I was not sure what I was going to do. One day I got a call from a business which had a network of twelve computers. Computer networks were rare then. Being completely self taught, I knew very little about them and this was well over my head.

This was before the Internet came to homes, and before we carried cell phones. Most computer work was done from a command prompt or a custom written program on a monochrome screen, usually green or amber.

While on the phone, the insurance company explained to me that they had purchased agency management software from an out-of-state business. Their technicians came down and installed the software a few years ago, but now one of the machines had stopped working. The company that had installed them had gone out of business and they didn't know who else to call. They had gotten my number from a friend.

I listened to them and was about ready to say 'I can't help you' but then I felt more than heard, 'Go and I will go with you.' So I went.

I prayed all the way to the location and when I arrived, they showed me the machine that was broken. There was a filing cabinet nearby and I rested my arm on it as we talked about the problem.

As I was standing there with several people staring at me for answers, I had none and fear began welling up within me. I looked around and laid my hand on a small black box with a lot of flashing lights that was sitting on top of the filing cabinet. When I did, another light came on. I removed my hand and the light went off.

That caught my attention, and looking closer I discovered that one of the network cables had a short in it. I could hold it just right and it worked, but if I let it go, it was broken. I fixed the cable and the malfunctioning computer worked fine.

The people there thought that I was a genius as I had not been there ten minutes and had diagnosed and fixed the problem that had plagued them randomly for weeks. They were my client for the next fifteen years.

God added client after client just like that and soon I had over fifty businesses that I was taking care of. Many would call with some impossible sounding problem that I had never dealt with. I would pray all the way there, and fix it in moments. It was truly a golden time when I could literally do no wrong. Sometimes just putting my hands on it fixed the problem. Yea, it sounds crazy, but I did it for years. The things that I could not even dream of doing, I was now living.

Delight in the Lord. Step out today into whatever He gives you to do. It is not by your might, power or intellect that you will succeed in this life, but by His Holy Spirit. Just as David stepped out against Goliath and won, God will help you accomplish anything that He gives you to do. God doesn't always call the equipped, He equips those that He calls.

Prayer: Father, I delight in You! Push me into deeper water and let me know that You are right there with me. Hold me tight and guide my every step. Let me be a conduit for Your power on this earth, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Pastor Marty Pena
Pastor Marty Pena  Thank you Pastor Dion for this powerful message. Many Christians spent their entire lives and I mean entire lives trying to be God and doing things on their own. God will let them until they seek God to know that without His Spirit they cannot accomplish nothing. It is only By His Spirit as the Spirit leads as the word says in Zechariah 4:6. There is so much pride in this fallen world, that even Christians want to play God, instead of leading the Spirit of the Living God lead them. Only lace of the Word of God, which is a lack of God, which is the lack of prayer, which is lack of intimacy, which only leads to destruction and that is so very sad.   God bless you Pastor Dion, God bless everyone! This is the day that the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Let us all be sensitive to that small still voice so that we stop hitting walls and question why are prayers are not answered, or why we keep hitting dead ends. Adapt to all and pray for all no matter what. Pray for those that you know are not doing wrong instead of being so quick to judge. God's Spirit will not lead you with a prideful attitude, it does come before the fall and as much as it hurts God, you will fall and He will allow it, only because of His Amazing Love. Pastor Marty

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt I have done several jobs, and served in the churches we have attended and was very busy doing what I know God wanted to do. God has changed my direction several times. It wasn't until my health was not good did I have real peace in my service to my Savior. I did feel lost for a while because every thing I was doing had to stop. I am an encourager and have the gift of mercy, so I now do what God has called me to do, be it on face book, or going to see the widows at our church, or where ever God directs me. I have to spend a lot of time in therapy for my health, and am around people that have a lot of pain, God has used me there. I praise God for these different seasons in my life. I am taking a day at a time, and pray thatthe Holy Spirit will guide me in my words and deeds. It is God that works in and through me. I know I can put my trust in Him.

Madalyn Myers
Madalyn Myers Over the years I worked as a Cosmetologist for ten years off and on. I really loved my job and could do it effortlessly, but for some reason I had to give up that position and I felt a little lost. I did not know what to do. I would doubt myself and feel a little sad that I lost my career. I went on for the last few years worried about what to do next. I just recently lost my father, his, car, and his home because I helped take care of my father for the last few years. I guess this is God's way of allowing me to start over. I want a new career, my own home, and car. So I just pray to get through the days. Today's devotional has helped me realize that maybe God has something better in store for me.

Michele Smart Wow, so much loss and change all at once.  I'm sure it's very difficult but just take one step at a time.  Just getting started on doing something even if it's a tiny step will help get your power over your life back with God's help every step of the way.  Good luck to you!
