When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Matthew 8...

Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you,' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against...

The Cutting Edge

  • It happened in these days, that he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God. When it was day, he called his disciples, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles Luke 6:12 WEB

Even though He was the son of God, Jesus prayed a lot. He continually developed His relationship with His Father. Intimacy and infinite knowledge were not freely given to Him, He had to work at it. Jesus did not pray once at the beginning of His ministry, but often withdrew to have some quiet time to pray and listen. Jesus was on the cutting edge because He stayed in tune with what the Father was doing.

All of us have heard or read messages that felt like they were meant for us, directly from God. We have also heard others that seemed dated, irrelevant, or boring. When the apostles spoke, the people listening were 'cut to the heart' (Acts 2:37, Acts 5:33, Acts 7:54) because they sharpened themselves in prayer:

'When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness' (Acts 4:31).

If you want your words to be relevant today, to walk on the cutting edge, then you will have to spend time in prayer as well. Even taking a few minutes to talk to the Lord will help shape your day, brighten your outlook, and encourage those around you. There is an infinite well of resources, wisdom, knowledge, forgiveness, grace and mercy, that we can access, and it all starts with prayer.

Any relationship that stops talking will slowly but surely die, while relationships that talk a lot grow in strength. We have all had friends that we lost contact with because we ceased talking at some point. Most often, we just get too busy with our daily life to maintain a strong relationship with very many people at a time, and we keep a special few. Be sure that the Lord is in your inner circle.

Today, be sure to spend a few minutes alone with God in prayer, if nothing more than to tell Him good morning and thank You for letting me wake up again. It is a daily thing that you should get in the habit of doing, and you have to start somewhere. If you want to grow closer to the Lord, take a few minutes to talk to Him each day.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for always being there and I am sorry that I am not always as faithful as I could be. Draw my heart to You and fan the flames within me. Sharpen me Lord. For the sake of the world, light a fire in me. Help me be steadfast, graceful, loving and merciful today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

I thank him for keeping me safe at night while I sleep and safe in the morning when I am out and about. I know the words "Thank you God" mean the world to him. Joan Joseph
Joan Joseph Draw near to God and he will draw near to you (James 4:8). When going through the storms of life I learned that it was Jesus who I could only depend on, he never left my side. He is my rock and refuge, a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24).My protector, "The Great Iam". Thank you Lord for all you have done. Amen

Diane Casey
Diane Casey Thank you for today's devotional, letting me know that my conversations I have with God all day count. I wake up thanking him, I talk to him all during the day, even though I'm not on my knees, that just talking to him any time of the day counts toward my spiritual walk with him. Blessings to you!

Twila Stierwalt talking and listening, are so important to my relationship with God is just as important to my relationdhip witg my God as eating food is to my body . I would starve if I did not eat every day. so my spiritual life would starve with out being in Gods word and communing with Him.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Amen! As I have learned to pray often and to speak to Him throughout the day, He fills me with peace and the joy of being His daughter.  Even in the midst of a chaotic day, if I run to Him , He gives me everything I need to prevail.  Even when I am completely spent and tears are flowing, I have but to speak to Him and He gently reminds me that He will never forsake me. If all I ever have is Jesus, if all I ever have is God, than I have everything I need!

Cheryl Hepler Intimacy & infinite knowledge.  Knowing Jesus prayed a lot did show that whatever the cutting edge was...relating to others, arguments with the religious, miracles, patients for them for us when we don't get it....lacking faith and the obdient path He was on for His Father to bear our sins with much suffering.  Thank you, Lord for staying close to your Father.  As I..I can't do anything without you.  I tried that before.
