Blessed is the man who doesn't walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the way of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers; But his delight is in Yahweh's law; On his law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, That brings forth its fruit in its se...

When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Matthew 8...

Complaining About the Present

  • They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. The soul of the people was very discouraged because of the journey. The people spoke against God and against Moses: 'Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, there is no water, and our soul loathes this disgusting food!' Numbers 21:4 WEB

The Israelites slowly made their way towards the promised land, but it took a lot longer than it should. In fact, it was only an eleven-day journey (Deut. 1:2), but it took forty years because of bad attitudes and disobedience. Grumblings of "I am thirsty!", "Where is the food" and "Are we there yet?" were probably heard throughout the crowd. God provided food for them, and they hated it.

Complaining all the way, they went around and around the same mountain until they all died. The complainers never did enter the promised land. All of them died in the wilderness, then their children went in along with Joshua and Caleb.

It is human nature to want to get where we are going. We set out to go to somewhere and we just want to get there. Always looking at tomorrow: when the weekend comes we are going to' when our vacation comes we are going to' when we retire we are going to' while completely ignoring our life that is quickly passing by today.

Remember this, your life is happening while on this journey, and how you react will determine how long it takes to reach your goals. Enjoy today, lighten up and laugh a little. Keep a positive attitude. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.

Prayer: Father, I thank You so much for the food that You have provided for me, and I appreciate it. Thank You for all that You do for me. Thank You that I am still breathing today. I am not ashamed to say that my help comes from You Lord and I am truly grateful. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Dana Teeter
Dana Teeter Amen! Yes this is exactly how I want to approach each and every day- mindful of God and His presence and thankful for each and every blessing in the present. But I have to be honest- I am often so guilty of being like the Israelites and complaining. I struggle with depression and I struggle to stay positive often losing the battle and simply becoming negative and falling to complaining and a bad attitude. And I am ashamed of this! I don't want to just say with words that I am thankful and I don't feel acting positive is enough- I want to feel the joy of the Lord to be filled with His joy and truly be grateful for each breath I am given! Help me Jesus! I can't do this alone. So many changes in my life over the last 5 years- trying and believing I am following His lead but feeling as though I myself am walking through the wilderness with Satan nipping at my heals. I am really struggling. I need prayer but most of all I need our Lird and Savior. Sorry if this is too personal I just felt so compelled to write this response. Thanks to all who take the time to listen. Thank you Pastor for your message and reminder.

Carol VanBemmelen
Carol VanBemmelen Dana, You are not alone. I understand the desire to feel the joy of the Lord! Keep seeking Jesus. Read His Word with someone.  I found for me it was hard to read the Bible alone.  I also found visiting a church other than my own was very uplifting to my soul, too.  If you can find a church that has services on Sunday evening, I would encourage you to worship the Lord with them.  Keep seeking Jesus. He is faithful. I am praying for you.

Ilia Jefferson
Ilia Jefferson Thank you for this message. Very timely, very needed.  Devil is trying to divide by as many ways as possible - see daily many angry, disgruntled, complaining people.  We cannot let this happen.  We must stand together in faith, and thank God for every blessing from smallest to largest.

Sharon Peterson
Sharon Peterson I agree llia. It is becoming rare for people to even greet you with a "Hello my name is" anymore.  Most get right into grumbling and complaining.  I try to share words of encouragement or point out the beauty of the day the Lord has given us but that is mostly rejected. It is as if the devil has people wanting to be miserable.  I pray each day for our Nation.

Janet Marsh-Lord
Janet Marsh-Lord Hello Heide Sorry to hear about your headache. I hope after a nap it will ease up. Yes with young children there is a lot happening and not much time to rest, as they are full on. I am retired now and all my family of 4 children have grown up and left home. I am a great grand mother and I can tell you it seems like yesterday that my children were young.!! Learning to enjoy every day as it comes and appreciate the little things is the key to contentment. With the Lords help and guidance each day can be a blessing. Even if you just find one small thing to be grateful about. I will pray that the Lord will take away your headache so you can enjoy life with your family. God Bless you.

Sharon Peterson
Sharon Peterson It often is not the destination but the Journey.  The high point of many of our family vacations was not so much where we were going but places and people we met along the way. We always drove instead of flying for this very reason.

Karen Pasquinelli
Karen Pasquinelli Amen!!  I learned a very very long time ago to live "one day at a time>"  I leaned this by going to Alanon Meetings.  My first husband was an alcoholic and it was suggested I go to help me deal with things.  So, I went and I am so glad I did.  It is like AA except Alanon is for spouses, etc., who have a problem drinker in their lives.   I learned not only to take one day at a time but also courage.
