Shake it Off

  • He said to them, 'Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there. Whoever will not receive you nor hear you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them.' Mark 6:10 WEB

When Jesus sent the disciples out to preach the good news, they often faced rejection. Jesus told them to shake it off, and then go on to the next town. There were people who would be glad to see them, waiting for them to arrive. The disciples were to try and share the good news, but never force themselves on those who did not want to hear it. When they encountered those, they were to shake it off, and move on.

God has made you who you are, but the devil will always find someone who does not like you, or does not like what you are doing, or what you stand for, and then put them near you so that you can hear all about it. If you do anything of value, there will be always be those that will oppose it.

Shake it off, move on. There are people that would love to be around you. Of course, you should behave correctly, but do not waste time worrying about what someone thinks of you. God loves you today, and what can man do to change that? Do not let someone else discourage you and hold you back from what God has in store for you.

Never be ashamed to share your faith boldly, but if they don't want to hear you, then shake it off and don't force yourself on them. When they talk about you and put you down, shake it off and move on. There are others that will welcome good news.

Prayer: Father, speak to me and through me today. Put Your words in my heart and show me who to share it with. Turn me into salt that is good, and a light that is bright. Help me to shake off the bad, and focus on the good. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles I probably still need some work on the whole Shake it off thing... I let people effect me... I may be stronger now but people's oppionion still get to me... especially when they are hateful about it... I moved on and I try to shake the dust off and just pray for those hateful hurting people, but the bad dreams are less and less and I know our father will take it away completely soon. He wants me happy and not living in that past but in the now of his blessings and I can most days be there.Yesterday was though... I'm not sure why... yes I know why... We are doing the love dare and satan will try anything to cause strife. I guess it worked yesterday as we both need to work on our selfish behaviors a little more. Praying for a more peaceful and calming day today. Thank you Pastor. Pastor's Prayer: Father, speak to me and through me today. Put Your words in my heart and show me who to share it with. Turn me into salt that is good, and a light that is bright. Help me to shake off the bad, and focus on the good. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Janet Clary
Janet Clary Pastor Dion, thank you for this daily devotion.  Too many times I have allowed a person to dominate my thinking and it would leave me with negative feelings about myself.  It took a very hard road traveled for many a year to realize that I am the one to control my own destiny.  Allowing satan to work through others to get to me is what kept my love for the Lord on the sideline.  Today I still have the moments of "tender" emotions but I am better than I have ever been in my life.  I have learned so much from your daily devotions and my family here help  me to see that I can be strong, shake it off and walk down the road of God.  Gods Love to You, Janet

Mary Anne Kochut
Mary Anne Kochut Wow! This really hit home were you said: "God has made you who you are, but the devil will always find someone who does not like you, or does not like what you are doing, or what you stand for, and then put them near you so that you can hear all about it. If you do anything of value, there will be always be those that will oppose it." Thanks for articulating it so well. Just last week I experienced something like this in my work. I presented a workshop for a client and received very mixed reviews... some people loved me and others did not; which was very unusual; I normally get excellent reviews. In discussion with my liason with the organization, it turned out the ones that did not like me formed a coalition and it was decideed that they didn't want me back at their organization to do any more work. I was very confused and upset because everything appeared to go well and some of the written comments were very positive, but I graciously accepted it and moved on. I realized that it said more about them than me and focused my attention on my upcoming clients. However, it was still nagging at me. This statement explains it all. Thanks Dion! You are a constant source of inspiration! Best wishes for continued and bountiful blessings for you and your ministry! Marty Anne

Pastor Marty Pena
Pastor Marty Pena Pastor Todd, Great message! I have taught this lesson many times on God's Ministry and to many brothers and sisters in Christ throughout my life. Most people will run from you simply because your light will always expose their darkness. The greatest gift that Jesus gave us on the cross was our salvation among many other things. But one of the greatest gifts God has given mankind since the Garden of Eden is a free will. You choose. You never approach anyone, the Holy Spirit will send them. I minister daily, and it is because He sends them. Those that have rejected me for trying to walk the very straight line have been people I thought were friends, multitudes of Christians, extended family, and I can go on and on. But, I always tell those that I do minister to the example that Jesus set in Mark 6:10, shake the dust off your feet and keep walking. Not everyone can or knows how to handle rejection as a Christian. The higher we go in Him, more and more will leave. Our lives become very consecrated unto Him and you look around and there is really no one. But when we are focused on Christ and Christ alone, grounded in His Word, and walking by His Spirit where He leads, we never ever feel lonely, empty, or rejected. Jesus fulfills the void when we are full of Him. I do tell people those that walk away, yes shake the dust off your feet and keep walking, but, continue to pray for that person or person's without ceasing as you have exposed the darkness in them with your light, and the darkness will never comprehend the light. We live in a dark world, and light will always prevail. A very solitary life we live, but so did everyone in all 66 books of the bible (the Cannon). If God created us bold, we stay bold until the end. Those who endure until the end shall be saved. Thank you Pastor Todd once again for the truth about the true Christian walk. God bless you, Pastor Marty

Samantha Greeredited: February 4, 2016 I remember when I was a new Christian and so excited to share the Word with everyone in my path. I would get so offended when others did not listen.  As we grow older, we mature and learn to shake it off and move on. Amen Father I pray that you place someone in each of our paths eagerly waiting to hear the good news.
