Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn't repent. 'Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Bu...

The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn't dwell in temples made with hands, neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things. Acts 17:24 WEBWhen I was growing up, we us...

RHM Devotional: Heroes and Monsters from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about the potential of being a Hero, or a Monster, that exists inside each one of us. We get to choose. Once when Jesus was preaching from a boat, He told a parable about a man that sowed wheat in H...

Arguing with an Ass

  • Yahweh opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, 'What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?' Balaam said to the donkey, 'Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you.' The donkey said to Balaam, 'Am I not your donkey, on which you have ridden all your life long until today? Was I ever in the habit of doing so to you?' He said, 'No.' Numbers 22:28 WEB

Balaam was riding his donkey down the road one day when it suddenly sat down under him and would not get back up. Balaam became angry and started to beat it with his staff, then the donkey started speaking to him. That was when their disagreement started and Balaam found himself arguing with an ass. He overlooked the fact that it was an intelligent donkey, very articulate, and that it was trying to save his life.

We have all had people in our lives that have became very annoying for unknown reasons. The Lord sometimes uses the strangest people, or apparently even animals to speak to us. These will get under your skin and reveal the real you that you try and hide, but it comes out with a little coaxing.

Don't start arguing with an ass today. It is quite possible that God is using this to show you what is really inside of you. It is always something in you that causes you to become upset, not them. They simply found your switch. When you resist the temptation to flare up, it will become easier. Just like sandpaper, the ass is there to help polish you up and knock off those rough edges.

Prayer: Father help me deal with the things in my life. Cleanse me from the bad attitudes and help me control my emotions. Make me stable and secure in who I am in You. Help me see the big picture and know that this tiny incident is nothing to be upset about, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Mark Duell
Mark Duell Amen. I just told my son this weekend that if we really want to know our spiritual condition, listen to what comes out of our mouth. Whatever is in our heart will eventually come out. And send along the right person or circumstance we will find out. And I'm just as guilty as the next guy. Happy New Year to the RHM Family.

Sylvia Todd So true, Mark, it doesn't matter how "spiritual" we think we are if we are spewing poison out of our mouths. Thank you for the reminder and happy new year!

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt I do believe that God is not as concerened about what we are going through, as how we react to what we are going through. I pray that my responce to others, and especially to God will be pleasing to God.

Norman Glaze Sr
Norman Glaze Sredited: January 4, 2016 I don't know if I am a professional when it comes to arguing with Ass's, but I have had my fair share of it. Among all the Great Bible Scriptures that admonish us not to argue with fools, there is also a great Mark Twain quote I try to remember: "Never argue with a Fool, onlookers might not be able to tell the difference". lol.  Love and Prayers to All :)
