In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led Israel out and in. Yahweh said to you, You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel. So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Yahwe...

Inspiration from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about inspiration, when a creative idea suddenly downloads into your brain. That is not an accident. It happens for a purpose, and it may be more important than we think. Let’s begin in Jeremiah chapter 1 verse 4: T...

Yahweh's angel found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain on the way to Shur. He said, 'Hagar, Sarai's servant, where did you come from? Where are you going?' She said, 'I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.' Genesis 16:7 WEBHagar wandered alone in the desert. She...

Smoked Brisket

  • David abode in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill-country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn't deliver him into his hand. 1 Samuel 23:14 WEB

After a long fast, we bought a wood smoker. You could call it a rebound effect. The smoker works as an outdoor slow cooker and it is common to take all day. One of the things that we made was smoked beef brisket.

The brisket is one of the toughest pieces of meat that exists. While trimming it, I could not find a knife in our house that worked, and I tried several. We wrestled with it all over the kitchen, as we tried to hold it down and cut off the edges. Possibly an electric knife would have been better.

We put it in the smoker early that morning and smoked it for ten hours, five directly on the rack, and five more wrapped in tin foil. When we took it out, you could cut it with a fork. You no longer needed a knife. The toughest cut of meat was now the most tender, but it took time, lots of time.

David was called, he was anointed, but he needed something else: Preparation. David had to hide from Saul for years, even though he had already been anointed as king by Samuel, and God was certainly with him. David later came out of the wilderness and became king.

Moses spent forty years in the wilderness as a simple shepherd, preparing to care for God's sheep (Acts 7:30). Moses had been a strong young man, but instead God chose to use him at eighty. After thoroughly baking him, Moses came out of the wilderness in power.

Jesus was the perfect Man, sinless, blameless and without fault. Yet He spent forty days in the wilderness before He began His ministry. It was a time of testing (Mark 1:13). Jesus came out of the wilderness walking in the power of God.

The trials that you face are preparing you for what God has in store. If you are ever going to be a leader, you will have to spend some time in the wilderness. When you come out, you will have credibility because of what you have experienced, and a testimony to share with others. God has a way of softening the toughest of us.

Prayer: Father I look to You in faith today. I know that the plans that You have for me are good. I don't understand some of the things that I am going through, but I choose to trust You because You love me and You know best. Guide me today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wylesedited: December 8, 2015 Isn't it great to know our trials we face have more purpose than misery! Praise Father for taking the bad that happens and using it for good! We all are a work in progress and thank God for that too! I would not want to be stuck as I am now! I am not where I want to be but I AM right where I need to be! And I AM stronger and better than I was yesterday! Without trails for growth we would be hard pressed to change and most of us would probably be stuck in a rut like the deer... forced to move by instinct & urge rather than knowledge & reasoning. I know God walks with me through this time of mystery and growth. He has the plan I am trying to follow. He will open the doors of opportunity and purpose when he is ready and not before! My impatience only makes the wait a struggle. Instead I am trying to walk in faith knowing our Father will provide abundantly for my family while I learn the lessons needed to step through the doors God will open in his time. Thank you for your daily reminders to keep on keeping on! Thank you Father for leading me! Thank you for gifting me with a heart that yearns to seek you. Bless me please with ears that hear and listen. Guide me to prosperity and joy in you Lord and lead me to the ROCK that is higher than I! Pastor's Prayer: Father I look to You in faith today. I know that the plans that You have for me are good. I don't understand some of the things that I am going through, but I choose to trust You because You love me and You know best. Guide me today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Dion and Sylvia... I can't thank you enough for this ministry and all you do for the children of God! Bless you! Hope you are catching some sun and having fun with the family :)

Valerie Fields
Valerie Fields God is soooo AMAZING!! He always knows exactly what each of His sheep needs individually. He ministers to us through His Shepherds. One of the definitions for "Shepherd" in the dictionary is....."Someone who protects, guides or watches over a person or group of people."  Pastor Dion thank you for watching over us and guiding us by His Spirit which dwells within you.  This message was meant for each and everyone of us in different ways.  I was just praying last night for God to give me the strength to wait on Him and not get in the way of what He is trying to do in my life. I get so tired and so weary when I don't see the manifestation of His promises. He always ministers to me via His Sheperds to let me know that He hears my cry and that He has not forgotten about me..... He encourages me to hold on a little while longer.  I really needed to hear this message on today.  Thank you Pastor Dion for being a good Shepherd.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady I can relate to the brisket. It has taken years to turn me into this person. If the Carol of yesterday looked upon the Carol of today, she wouldn't recognize me. If the Carol of the present looks upon the Carol of the future the same thing would happen. Everyday He changes me , His work is not complete until the day I breathe my last breath.  I praise God for the work He is doing in me!

Sylvia Froese
Sylvia Froeseedited: December 8, 2015 What is all these stories of heat and smoking? I am starting to feel the heat myself. Just kidding. haha. All good. I really enjoyed today's message actually. Just like to joke around with you pastor and Sylvia since I feel I am getting to know you more and more. I have smoked meat myself and understand the process. Yes it does feel sometimes like we are getting our impurities smoked out of us to make way for a tender heart where we can show love for others. I was just reflecting recently on how I have changed. Before the breakdown of my marriage and depressions, I did not have the heart for others the way I do now. Nowadays when I see others in pain, I want to show them my concern and care and show them that I care about them and that what they are going through matters to me too. It's like when you have been through some really hard trials in your life, you can care about another person in a deeper level the way you couldn't before.

Kathy Banfield I always wondered why David was annointed king but had to wait so many years before he actually served as the king. But God knows what He's doing.Maybe if God waited on Abraham, Moses, David, Zechariah and Elizabeth, He plans to wait on me, too!
