Simon Peter said to them, 'I'm going fishing.' They told him, 'We are also coming with you.' They immediately went out, and entered into the boat. That night, they caught nothing. But when day had already come, Jesus stood on the beach, yet the disciples didn't know that it was Jesus. John 21:3 WEBP...

Something from Nothing

  • However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself. Matt 17:27 ESV

When Jesus came to Capernaum, the tax collectors asked Peter for taxes. Jesus told him to go fishing and the first fish that he caught would have a silver coin in its mouth, and to use that to pay them. What are the chances of that? I grew up fishing and never caught one like that.

Once when out of work for a season, I really needed two-hundred-fifty dollars to pay a bill and had no way to get it. After I went to church that Sunday, I noticed an envelope tucked into my Bible. When I opened it, there were two one-hundred dollar bills and a fifty. I still do not know for sure who did it, but they certainly heard from the Lord that time.

We like to be self sustaining, and to have to depend on others is a struggle. But if you lean in on God, you will find that He is more than enough.

So today if you find yourself in a tight spot, know that He is able to help you. Don't give up. God Almighty is the one that brings something, from nothing.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You know my needs before I even ask, and You know the things that I am facing. Please provide for me and boost my faith along the way, in the name of Jesus I pray.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles Amen! Ineed God has answered many a prayer for this household :) Blessed beyond understanding  we are. I can claim victory through God over many answered prayers including the health and wellness of my daughter! The Lord giving my daughter back to me is one of the greatest blessings yet :) Not once but twice has God saved her... once in 2010 when her totaled car looked like the jaws of life had to get her out of it,  the only spot not completely crushed was the driver seat where she was. Angels had her back that day. Then again last year when she went into her psychosis. For months we would pray for her. God carried me through that time and showed me each day enough blessings and insite to keep me to the next day. His heart blessings and the quiet whispers to just hold on a little longer were the only things keeping me sain through it all. He answered the prayers of many when she accepted the help she needed to recover and come back to us. Thank you Father for all you do in my life. Thank you for the blessing of my daughter's  health and wellness. Thank you for healing her and giving us back our sain and loving daughter agian. Thank you for ALL the times you have had to carry me and my family through to brighter days. Thank you for All the times I don't even know about where you have worked out miracles and blessings for my family. You know my needs before I even ask, and You know the things that I am facing. Please provide for me and boost my faith along the way, in the name of Jesus I pray.

Judy Driggers
Judy Driggers Amen! God has met the needs of this family as well and met my needs on a daily basis. Although it is a struggle daily, my son first became psychotic in 2006. At one point he was homeless and lost 100s of miles away. He is diagnosed with schizophrenia, but he is home now and is a follower of Christ. He takes meds, but I must admit this battle is ongoing. My husband had a massive heart attack in 2007. He is now disabled, but stable. The following year my other son started college & a few years later my single daughter was expecting a baby. Each time God provided for our needs and continues to do so, sometimes in small ways & in large ways as well. I think it is important not to judge others or to assume we could never "walk in their shoes." Thank God for His mercy and for caring for our needs. He really is a loving and caring Father.

Deleted Member Amen, Judy, thank you for sharing your amazing testimony of all that Jesus has done and all the wonderful things He is still doing. God is so good. This testimony so touched my heart today as I am facing a few battles of my own, Jesus has brought me and my family through many many things and I Praise Him for everyone from the depth of my heart, but today I am feeling a little low in my spirit, mind and body, I know that there is something out there that Jesus has planned for me and my family, I just need prayers today. Love and hugs, Tamara

Deleted Member Amen, He truly is a good Father, He knows our hearts prayers, even when we just can't find the words to pray, He hears our heart and today that is how I feel, I need Jesus to hear my hearts prayers, because I cannot find the words today that I need to pray for the way my heart feels troubled inside. God bless you. Love and hugs, Tamara

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield I never found a coin in a fish, but I DID find money tucked in my late father in law's Bible! I viewed it as a gift from beyond the grave, as it was found at a time when my family really needed it. Yes, God does know what we need and will provide--if we have faith!

Karen Pasquinelli
Karen Pasquinelliedited: November 28, 2015 Amen!  Never found a coin in a fish either.  When I look back on life, and when I needed, God has always provided and at the right time.  There were even times when I would have to borrow from my Dad but didn't have the courage to ask, but God would provide me or my husband with the courage.  He would always get paid back but you didn't dare buy something new because if you did....OH BOY...lol.  I loved my Dad he was great and always would lend a helping hand.  I have learned you can really be down and out but God will always come thru "ask and you shall receive."  Also there have been times that I would find money when needed on a floor somewhere.
