Rags to Riches

  • Then the king gave Daniel high honors and many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon. Dan. 2:48 ESV

Daniel, who was born of royal family, was taken prisoner when Nebuchadnezzar captured Jerusalem in 597 BC. He was taken from his homeland, made a eunuch and a servant in Babylon against his will. It wasn't the happiest of starts, but in due time, God raised him up to second-in-command and he was the wisest man in Babylon.

Joseph was born his father's favorite, but then sold into slavery, served time in prison, and then was promoted to second-in-command to Pharaoh. Moses was raised and educated as Pharaoh's royal family, then spent forty years tending sheep in the wilderness, but became the most powerful man living on earth. David was anointed by Samuel and then ran from Saul for years before he actually became the king.

God has a plan for you. Before it comes to pass though, there is a time of proving, pruning, and maturing. To us, it often looks like just plain waiting. Do not get discouraged while you are in the wilderness. God is completely faithful and the things that He has spoken to you, He will bring to pass. You cannot have a rags to riches story without the rags.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I wait on You. I thank You so much for all that You are doing in my life and I know that You will guide me down the best possible path. Have Your way in my life, in the name of Jesus I pray.

Note: Good morning, we pray you are all having a wonderful Thanksgiving week! Some group news: The FAAD topic of the week is "Redeemed - the Waiting Place", with an accompanying chat available on Thursday Whether or not you deal with depression, we believe your faith walk will be strengthened by this powerful testimony. The Creation Photographers theme for the week is "In All Things Give Thanks!". Post photos of things that you are thankful for (you can always post other photos, too :)). The Haven of Hope topic this week is: "Abuse and the Spirit of Rejection". Please join in with this topic to share your experiences with this important issue.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wylesedited: November 24, 2015 Amen! Your lesson today goes hand in hand with FAAD lesson this week. The waiting!! I am waiting:) I know God is working things out for me. I am waiting for the day I can say I have overcome my fear and doubts. I am waiting for the signal from God as to where to go next... I am in prayer about my listening abilities and hoping I am following the right vioce in my heart/ head. I know I will be provided for. I know he wont leave me... but the dark places can be very daunting even though I know I am not alone in them. In any given day I can be greatful and thankful, knowing many of my daily blessings,  yet in fear as well! I can quiet the fear most days but it is there. I start each day with devotional  time, prayer and worship to keep me on track yet it seems if anything is thrown at me that wasn't planned for I retreat to my fears... it takes much redirecting to get me to that calm place again. I AM A work in progress and thankful for his grace:)   Heavenly Father, I wait on You. I thank You so much for all that You are doing in my life and I know that You will guide me down the best possible path. Have Your way in my life, in the name of Jesus I pray.  Thank you Pator.Much food for thought today:) Blessings

Deleted Member Amen, what beautiful words of a testimony and it so touched me today, because I have days like that when something new just pops up out of the blue, it kind of gets me off track and I begin to retreat with the fears and worries and it takes me time to find that calming place again. While I am looking and waiting for the calming place, I try to go my Happy Place in my mind, which is the ocean, the sounds of the waves, the white colors of they waves as they rush in and I am sitting in my chair with an umbrella above me and a good book in my hands and my toes in the sand at the end of the water. This is my Happy Place, so while I am waiting on the real peace to come to my heart, I take myself to the Happy Place (the ocean and all its beauty) God bless you. Love and hugs

Marisa Jackson Amen!!  When we wait on the Lord, though at times it is very difficult, once we see the outcome, we turn and smile and say " Thank you Lord for never leaving me"!  I know, I am living proof.  That's my testimony!

Laura B. Martinez
Laura B. Martinez Thank you Pastor Todd. I use to wonder why God would wait so long to make things happen in my life, but as I grew older I understood why. I trust God's timing and know he will make things happen for me when he has everything in place. May God continue to bless you.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady The Lord is blessing me as I journey through this life. It is quite an adventure as He brings me through fiery trials and leads me on paths of righteousness.  I may not know what tomorrow will bring, what detours or traps lie ahead, but I do know He will be there right beside me , protecting me, teaching me and comforting me until I reach my final destination and obtain that precious gift of eternity in His presence.  The most precious desirable gift to praise Him forever and to gaze upon the face of my beloved Savior!

Love and hugs.

Sylvia Schmidt
Sylvia Schmidt Yes this is definitely for me today. I was asked to teach a web development course at my college only to find out yesterday that the course was missing off if my schedule. I am wondering if I am teaching or not. So confused about it. Took it to my boss and he has no idea how it happened. I have had problems with work for a while now. I took it to God and it all feels like a test of trust because all God says is that I am supposed to trust Him with this. Yes! The waiting is hard. The not knowing is so hard. All we can do is trust God when his happens.

Sylvia Schmidt
Sylvia Schmidt Thanks Tamara. As it turns out, I asked my boss if i was teaching like they had promised me, but since my schedule was sent to be as blank with no classes, I had to ask them "what gives?". It turns out they hired someone new to teach so I was not needed to teach. It was devastating as this has happened to me before over the years with other employers. I hope God has something in mind that will trump all this devastating stuff and will be for me and me alone and not someone else later where people change their minds after they promise you. I also pray that since my doctor told me I could stop my birth control pills that I won't be stuck in my depression any more soon. It would be good to feel free from the depression. God has plans for me and I don't want the hold of depression on my life anymore. Getting rid of the pill is good in this case. i will be in control of my moods again which will be really great to be free.

Sylvia Schmidt And if you pray for God to move obstacles in your life to move you closer to his plan for your life, be aware of it being a bold prayer and there could be some unexpected and hard things that happen suddenly. It is something I forgot! :-) I feel that a part of what is happening for me is because I prayed that type of prayer  out of a devotional I had read somewhere recently. I guess I will just see where this situation goes. All we can do is trust God.

Twila Stierwalt Some times it takes years before we see Gods plan, and some times we will never see it, but god does have a plnn and a purpose for our lives. While I am waiting, LORD, I want to make my life count for you. I do know that nothing is ever wasted with You.  Thank You God for this journey.

The Doctors and my family thought that I was a "gonner" but HE has a bigger and a different plan!! OH! How I love You LOrd!!! Deleted Member I am so thankful for this message and I pray that in God's timing my rags will be turned into riches, not material riches, but spiritual riches, I have a heart, yearning to learn more and more about Jesus, to instill His Word deep into my heart and soul. Thank you so much for this devotion, where it seems like the waiting may be forever, but its only a moment in time, and Jesus will allow His perfect will to be done in our lives in His perfect timing. Thank you Jesus for loving me so much.
