Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, "Don't fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel." A New Identity

  • Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, 'I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon you lie, to you will I give it, and to your seed. Your seed will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your seed will all the families of the earth be blessed. Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.' Genesis 28:13 WEB

When the Lord gave Jacob this word, he was a young man running for his life. His brother Esau wanted to kill him because Jacob had stolen his birthright. As Jacob lay down to get some rest that night, God told him through a dream of many things that were to come .

Jacob was a bit of a rogue. His name means 'He cheats, the supplanter, he undermines, the heel' yet God was not interested in his past, but spoke only of his future. As Jacob lived his life, and spent time wrestling with God, he became a different man. God changed Jacob's name to 'Israel,' meaning 'Who prevails with God' (Gen. 32:28).

Decades later when Jacob returned to that place, he was healthy, wealthy, married, had a dozen children, many servants, a great testimony, and a new name. The Lord fulfilled His promises to Jacob just as He had spoken.

God always sees the potential in us and calls us into our future, even though some of us could use a new identity like Jacob. God is faithful to provide what we need when we put Him first in our lives, even a new identity. We can become better than we are. We do not have to be what we were in the past.

Also, the things that the Lord has spoken to your heart, He will fulfill, no matter how impossible or unlikely it appears. Hang on in faith and know that we will see the goodness of God in the land of the living.

Prayer: Father, I thank You so much for all that You do for me. Mold me, shape me, and help me become the best version of myself. Bring out the best in me. May my family and I all come to know You in a deeper way, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Lisa Moran
Lisa Moran Thank you Pastor Dion for the timely devotions. I look forward to reading them each day. Thank you also for your continued prayers and for the prayers of RHM members. As I read through them last night, my heart was so humbled to know God does have people who care and take the time to express it in praying. I attend 12 Stone Church in Lawrenceville, Ga. and because of the large congregation, it is not often I have anyone I can call on to pray with me. I have led a small group bible study in my home for 8 years, and when our son passed away in July, I felt I needed some time to heal and decided to not lead for the semester. Please continue to cover my family in prayer, that we will hear the voice of God and know the way we are to go in our careers/ministry. We are walking by faith! Blessings to you and your family!

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt Some times our ministry cnanges.  I had a lot of health issues the last 4 years and had to depend on God to bring others across my path to minister to. I look back and am amazed at what God has done. Leave it in Gods hands and He will do things you never dreamed of. The gifts God gives you, He will use for His glory. I am sorry about your son passing. I took care of my Parents for 9 months before they died. They died 2 weeks apart, I have never lost a child, so don't know how you feel, but do know that I got my strength from my LORD. I will pray for you. I do know that God gave me so much peace, and it took time for me to greave.  Phil.4:4-9, helped me so much. Gos is our peace, The God of peace will be with you.

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt Hi Marie, I can give you some scripture on your question's. When you give your life to Jesus Christ, you are a new person in Chrise, He changes your heart and gives you the Holy Spirit to guide you, and teach you all things. God gives us His strength. It is no longer us but Christ living in us, It is God working through your new life. When Christ died you die to your old self and the power that raised Jesus Christ from the grave, is the same power that God uses through you. It is all Gods work, He just uses you to shine His light to others. Then it is not our strength but Gods.  As Christians we are to practice these things. Read Phillipians 4: 7-8. meditate on these things and Gods peace will fill your heart. If this does not help, I will look for more scripture for you to read. Love Twila.
