An Overnight Visitor

  • For his anger is but for a moment; His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, But joy comes in the morning. Psalms 30:5 WEB

Another night without sleep I thought as I tossed and turned on the bed. The pressure of what was going on in our life was tormenting and even though we were exhausted, we could not sleep because we knew what we had to face the next day. But when the morning arrived, God had taken care of the problem and our worry had been a total waste of time.

Looking back over my life, there were many times when things looked really bad, but when the next day came, things were better. All the worry was for nothing, and if the situation had not changed, worry still had not helped.

The sentence 'weeping may stay for the night' suggests an overnight visitor. It could translated as, 'At evening, weeping may arrive for the night, but Joy is coming to stay in that room in the morning, so he has to be gone by then.'

Paul wrote 'For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; while we don't look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal' (2 Corinthians 4:17'18).

Wait patiently on God. He knows what is going on in your life. Pray, spend a little time with Him each day, just the two of you. Share your heart with Him. It will change your life for the better and you will be amazed at the mini-miracles that begin to happen. We do not lose heart just because we have a visitor.

Prayer: Father, I look to You today. Please turn my weeping into joy. Walk with me, talk with me, help me come to know You better. Teach me what I need to know to move forward, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Good morning! Mark Duelledited: November 17, 2015 Amen.  (Matthew 6:26) Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?  This verse has really meant a lot more to me over the last year. More than ever before. And then you stop and remind yourself that He Himself is the Lord of Lords and yet...   (Matthew 8:20) Jesus *said to him, “The foxes have holes and thebirds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”   Who am I to worry?

Deleted Member That was me and sometimes I fall back into that form of worry. Its like instead of believing for the best, I would always look at the worst and that kept me from receiving what I needed from Jesus. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.

Samantha Greer
Samantha Greer Thank you for the encouragement.  I have never read that scripture as a "visitor ". It is so true that God does not need our help resolving the issues in our life; we just need to acknowledge God in all things. And He will truly bring joy in the morning.   Blessings to all,

Carol Pady Amen! It took me a long time to arrive here but He has brought me in my golden years to have peace in all things. When that familiar fear begins to creep in and try to rob me of peace, I recognize it and pray for peace that passes all understanding. In Jesus I am victorious and I can lay all my burdens at His feet and rest. My Savior is my comforter and my friend!

Karen Pasquinelliedited: November 17, 2015 Carol I so relate to what you said about the golden years.  I too have peace in all things now that I am in my golden years. When the fear begins to creep in I pray and then feel the peace come over me.  That is what I love about the golden years, the other stuff like aches and pains, well, I just live with it....lol  Jesus is my comforter and my bff.

Deleted Member Amen, thank you for sharing your words of encouragement. I too as I have gotten older, have tried to realize when satan tries to bring fear and worry upon me and I have to tell satan to get behind me in The Name of Jesus. But when I do get so overwhelmed by life, I try to look back at how far Jesus has brought me, so I can then look forward to the future, by knowing that Jesus was and is and always will be there for me as long as I serve Him. Love and hugs, Tamara

Iris Parlin I have issues that I pray for but wake up with them in the morning, but right now I believe we need to pray for PEACE!! In light of what has happened in Paris and what ISIS claims for Washington DC and also in NYC. From day to day you never know what is going to happen next. Please pray for Peace along with me today and everyday, till we meet again. Thank you!!

Deleted Member I agree in prayer with you that all things will work out for God's perfect will. I pray that we put our trust and faith in Him like never before, knowing that even when the storms are raging all around us, He can and will keep us in perfect peace, for those whose minds stay on Him.

Kathy Banfield I really like the analogy of weeping as a temporary visitor who leaves in the morning. Joy comes with the light, and in Jesus there is only light! Thanks for the reminder!

Deleted Member This message was truly spoken to me, there have been so many nights that I couldn't sleep for worrying, whats going to happen tomorrow. How am I going to pay this bill or how am I going to get enough gas to make it to work, how will i get groceries for my family this week and so many more things I could name, but morning came and guess what all worked out, in such a way that I truly knew this was A True God Moment, because there were no other way that these things worked out, because no one knew about the worries I felt, but Jesus, so He was the only one that could send me what I needed and as I began trusting and put use of my faith more, I found that Jesus was there the whole time, He just wanted me to trust Him, and Him only. God bless each of you.
