Thank You from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about the importance of being thankful. Jesus lived on Earth as our example, and He was so thankful and full of praise. No matter what you have been through, there are still some things that you can be thankful about. An imp...

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalms 32:8 NIVRecently when the Lord was ready to start something new in our life, He started closing out the old. Of course we panicked, tried giving more, praying more, fasting more, serving ...

Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water. James 3:10 WEBHot, ti...

Sin Less

  • If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we haven't sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:8 WEB

While helping an elder at our church repair the roof of his house, I learned a lot about him. When you work with someone day after day and watch them smack their thumb with a hammer, or drop something on their foot, you get to know who they really are without their church-face on.

He was in his seventies and after walking with the Lord for forty years, he was very polished. He prayed over everything, never seemed to lose his temper, trusted God and controlled his emotions. He looked the other way when a short skirt walked past us at the diner.

We went to the hardware store for nails and a little boy who was with us put some extra ones in his pocket. When the elder found them later, we drove all the way back to town to return them. He was the real thing and when he prayed, God often answered him back. One night at church He laid hands on the pastor's wife and she was instantly healed of cancer.

From what he explained to me though, it was not always like this. When he was young he had quite the temper and made many mistakes, but he sinned less these days. He had learned to discipline his body and make it behave. Like Paul said, 'I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected' (1 Corinthians 9:27).

That is the goal, and it is not a quick process. None of us are perfect, none of us are without sin, but we are working on it. Hopefully, I will sin less this year than last year. And if you do sin, repent and get back up. Grace, forgiveness and acceptance can be yours if you only ask. We all fall down. Repent, get back up, and try to sin less.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for saving me. Forgive me of any sin in my life. Wash me and I will be clean. Guide me to where I need to be. Help me walk upright as a child of the Most High God, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Good morning! One of the parts of our online church you may not be aware of is the Blogs page. Of course, you are already familiar with the devotional, but we also have some folks in the ministry who have honored us with their own writing. To see the list, just go to the "Blogs" link on the site menu and click on any name. Have a look and we believe you will be blessed! If you are interested in becoming a blogger, just contact us and we will send you the necessary information on that. May His light shine brightly into your life this day!

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Amen! He is continuing to work in me. Through Him and the conviction of His Holy Spirit , I am becoming less sinful everyday. I cannot do this without His intervention.  As I grow older and turn more frequently to Him, He helps me make the necessary changes to mold me into a better witness for The Gospel. He is a good, good Father!

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield This is such a timely and very important message, and one I need to be reminded of. For God told Isaiah that righteousnenss would be a "plumb line" and the standard on which we are all measured. But, if no one is righteous (Romans 3:12) what can we do? Cry out to the One who IS righteous and He will save us! And that is Jesus.Only through Him can we be made righteous with God!

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt Amen! The more we trust in the LORD, the more we learn to live in Gods peace. God wants us to clime to the high places, and gives us feet like a deer so we can get up there and live in a spacious place. I thank God for His strength and power He has given us, we just have to learn from His wisdom how to use what He has given us.
