ReFirement Not Retirement

  • Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' Matthew 28:18 WEB

We just waited for Jesus to come and get us. After getting saved, I started attending a local church, got baptized in the Waccamaw river, and waited, and waited for the rapture of the church. They taught that it could happen any day now, but I noticed that many were still building houses and such. Then I learned that it was a time honored tradition to wet you, set you, and forget you.

I was a devout believer, on fire for God at the time and I wanted more. I read the entire Bible in about six weeks, and often listened to it all night. After a while I had a hard time reconciling scripture with our behavior. Oh, we spoke all the right words, but lived like everyone else. My prayers were only vain repetition. I eventually spent a lot of time studying the book of Revelation and how the end would come.

One day the Lord spoke to me through a prophet that was visiting from Texas and said: 'Son, don't worry about the retirement plan, it is even now a time for refirement, wherein I do stand. And don't be so concerned about the end of the book, go back to the beginning, take another look.'

I knew that it was God speaking for the words burned and no one knew what I had been studying but me. He was saying that there is more to the Christian life than sitting there waiting on His return. God has a plan to fulfill on this earth and we are His hands and feet. While we are sitting there waiting on Him, He is sitting there waiting on us to start doing what He told us.

We are to spread the word of God to all the nations. If you are not able to carry it yourself, then get in league with those that are, pray for them, support them, encourage them. Be a part of what God is doing in the earth today and you will find true satisfaction. It is what we are meant to do as Christians.

No one can help everyone, but everyone can help someone. Learn to be a giver and not a taker. Learn to serve others and not just be served. Encourage others and build them up, when you need it most, it will return to you. There is a reason that we should do unto others as we would like done to us, for what goes around, comes around. He who waters shall be watered also himself (Proverbs 11:25).

Forget about the end times, it is time to do what He asked us now. Today is the day of salvation. Invite the Holy Spirit to come and spend the day with you. Pray, listen, do what is right and follow His gentle promptings. He has a plan and a purpose for you, here and now. His plan is not in the afterlife, it is happening right now.

Yes! Jesus is coming back, but don't get hung up on the retirement plan. Let us work to the very last minute. Get in tune with what God has for you today and you will not have to worry what happens on the earth later because you will be ready. Well done thou good and faithful servant (Matt. 25:21).

Prayer: Father, I adore You and want more of You in my life every day. Help me to make the right decisions. Guide me to where You want me to be. Fulfill Your will in my life and help me get involved in what You are doing on earth today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Norman Glaze Sr Super Good Words! I remember being totally disillusioned when I starting going to Church. I was so on Fire for God, and so full of Love, I was just dumb enough to think every Christian was, lol! Man, was I wrong. On the End Time thing, I can plainly remember the members of our Church practicing Jumping towards Heaven(In Anticipation of the Rapture). It'd be funny, if it wasn't kind of sad. Great Message Pastor, Thanks Brother

Dorene Glaze WE WENT TO ONE CHURCH THAT ACTUALLY SANG ILL FLY AWAY AND HAD PEOPLE FLAPPING THEIR ARMS PRACTICING TO FLY THINKING THE RAPTURE COULD BE ANY MINUTE ANY DAY ,THEN ONE CHURCH TAUGHT THERE IS NO RAPYURE AND WE BETTER MOVE TO A BLESSED AREA AND STORE UP FOR THE FAMINES AND END TIME MARK OF THE BEAST , WE DIDNT PRACTICE THE FLYING THING BUT DID THE OTHER FOR YEARS , NO OUT FROM UNDER ALL THAT BONDAGE, BUT IM LEFT CONFUSED ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A RAPTURE OF THE SAINTS BEFORE THE END COMES . TRIED TO STUDY ON IT BUT WAS SO INSTILLED  IN MY MIND THAT THERE ISNT SO THAT IS MY BELIEF TODAY , HOWEVER IM ASKING THE LORD TO REVEAL THE TRUTH TO ME AND ILL JUST WAIT AND SEE .

Sylvia Todd Yikes, I hope that flapping was at least just a motivational thing and that they were not thinking they would actually flap under their own power :). I do not personally believe in the rapture, but am ok to be wrong. We are called to be always ready anyway, and as far as a relationship with God, that's how it should be. If the rapture happens to occur during our lifetime, that would be, I suppose, a bonus :)! As for excessive worrying about the end times, besides reasonable emergency rations (which is a good idea anyway), it seems like a good way to ruin the time we have :).

Julie Schneider Another awesome message!  My dad remembered hiding under the sink as a small child because his family was ranting and raving about the end times coming...it left a fear in him for the rest of his life.  We need to focus on the here and now and do our very best with what we have. Great message, thank you!

Andre Wallace That is indeed another great God inspiring article. Unfortunately there is no biblical truth to a Rapture. I am a Seventh Day Adventist.  To understand what I m talking about check it out this website www.aftv.org.  God bless and hope you discover the real truth.

Dion Toddedited: October 18, 2015 Hi Andre, thank you for reading. I am not promoting the rapture. I have long since moved on from that, but Jesus will return to the earth one day, just not in the way that many think. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." (Acts 1:11).
