If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up. Daniel 3:17 WEB
Standing before the ruthless king that had conquered their cities and taken them into exile, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego listened to the new decree being read. King Nebuchadnezzar had built a golden image ninety feet high and commanded everyone to bow down and worship it when the music played.
All they had to do was bow down and this problem would go away. One small compromise. They could think of many ways to justify doing this as well. After all they were captives living here and they should obey the laws of the land. God could have intervened in the first place and they would not even have to be here. Everyone else is doing it.
When given the choice of bowing down to the golden idol or dying, they chose death. They stood on Deuteronomy 5:7, 'You shall have no other gods before Me.' They told Nebuchadnezzar that God was fully able to deliver them, but even if He did not, they would not serve his god nor bow to his idol of gold. Then having done all, they stood firm (Ephesians 6:13).
Nebuchadnezzar became furious and had them thrown into the burning furnace, but God met them in the fire. They chose death, yet lived and with a powerful testimony. When they came out of the fire, only the ropes that bound them had been burned away.
If they had compromised the word of God that they knew and understood by intentionally bowing down to the idol, they would have been just like everyone else, and God would not have, or had to, deliver them.
If you want to see God show Himself mighty in your life, be different. Don't go with the flow. Stand on His word and do not compromise to avoid the coming confrontation. God meets us in the furnace after we have taken a stand on His word and shows that He is mighty to save.
Prayer: Father, help me to stand in the face of my enemies. Deliver me from their hands. I choose You Lord. Show Yourself strong in my life and help me make the right decisions today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
Note: Happy Friday! The monthly newsletter is now available, sorry for the delay! This issue contains what has been going on at RHM and the latest word for the members that Pastor Dion has seen in prayer. ALSO, the highlighted group for the week is "Dreams: Meaning and Purpose". This group is centered around the truth that God often communicates to His people through dreams. The Dreams group is a great place to share what the Lord has shown you, discuss interpretations, and grow in wisdom and discernment when it comes to hearing His voice. We encourage you to post your dreams, questions, and thoughts about this subject in this group! You can find the Dreams group by clicking on the "Groups" link on the site menu.
