Brothers, I don't regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do: forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13 WEBI was at a very dark p...

Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31 NIVAfter coming out of the grocery store, I found that I had parked way out in the parking lot and did not really feel like taking the buggy all the way back to the store. I saw a few other carts nearby that people had left in the parking lot....

For you don't delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. O God, you will not despise a broken and contrite heart. Psalms 51:16 WEBWhen I first came to the Lord, I was so zealous that I wanted to make up for everyt...

Mighty to Save

  • If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up. Daniel 3:17 WEB

Standing before the ruthless king that had conquered their cities and taken them into exile, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego listened to the new decree being read. King Nebuchadnezzar had built a golden image ninety feet high and commanded everyone to bow down and worship it when the music played.

All they had to do was bow down and this problem would go away. One small compromise. They could think of many ways to justify doing this as well. After all they were captives living here and they should obey the laws of the land. God could have intervened in the first place and they would not even have to be here. Everyone else is doing it.

When given the choice of bowing down to the golden idol or dying, they chose death. They stood on Deuteronomy 5:7, 'You shall have no other gods before Me.' They told Nebuchadnezzar that God was fully able to deliver them, but even if He did not, they would not serve his god nor bow to his idol of gold. Then having done all, they stood firm (Ephesians 6:13).

Nebuchadnezzar became furious and had them thrown into the burning furnace, but God met them in the fire. They chose death, yet lived and with a powerful testimony. When they came out of the fire, only the ropes that bound them had been burned away.

If they had compromised the word of God that they knew and understood by intentionally bowing down to the idol, they would have been just like everyone else, and God would not have, or had to, deliver them.

If you want to see God show Himself mighty in your life, be different. Don't go with the flow. Stand on His word and do not compromise to avoid the coming confrontation. God meets us in the furnace after we have taken a stand on His word and shows that He is mighty to save.

Prayer: Father, help me to stand in the face of my enemies. Deliver me from their hands. I choose You Lord. Show Yourself strong in my life and help me make the right decisions today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Happy Friday! The monthly newsletter is now available, sorry for the delay! This issue contains what has been going on at RHM and the latest word for the members that Pastor Dion has seen in prayer. ALSO, the highlighted group for the week is "Dreams: Meaning and Purpose". This group is centered around the truth that God often communicates to His people through dreams. The Dreams group is a great place to share what the Lord has shown you, discuss interpretations, and grow in wisdom and discernment when it comes to hearing His voice. We encourage you to post your dreams, questions, and thoughts about this subject in this group! You can find the Dreams group by clicking on the "Groups" link on the site menu.

Mark Duell
Mark Duell Amen. Oh how we should be living examples of these men in our nation and around the world today. I have heard "Christians" say that if the enemy has their back against the wall and it means life or death they will lie and deny Christ but really in their heart and mind they still love Him. I realize when it comes to life and death we all want to live. But when I know Whom I serve and what He has promised me, I'm going to be a rebel and die for my Lord, King of Kings, Ruler over everything. Especially when we know that when we are "absent from the body we are present with the Lord." Some may say yeah that's what Peter said also. I guess I would say then that if you are a true follower of Christ your actions are going to speak louder than your words. So the enemy is going to know who and what you are anyhow. Okay, time to jump off the soap box. Thanks again Pastor Todd for the great thought provoking devotional.

Cheryl Hepler A missionary called them once the "brave ones".  I like that.  We are called differently in severing Him.  I thought I am weak how could I do what missionaries do?  Those words were so freeing.  Bless those brave one's hands, feet & whole being as they courageously serve You ,Lord.  Help me to be a blessing for you.

Albert Chau
Albert Chau The biggest enemy is ourselves. Too often we compromised the word of God and paid the dear consequences. We might have  looked away from Jesus and let someone or idol taking over our heart, and we headed for a terrible path. David took a day off from fighting the enemy and he paid for that day with the rest of his life. It could have us too, and Satan is using our complacency to take us down.

Jim Worobe
Jim Worobe Members of my family and I have been faced with situations like this many times. I believe that once you learn something to be true (convicted) falling away from that truth and returning to one's old behaviors is worse than when someone who does not know that truth participates in those behaviors.  Daniel's companions where convicted of a truth. I think God would have been more disappointed in them had they bowed down than he was with those who did not know. I am a Sabbath Keeper, that is I keep the fourth commandment Sabbath. I will not work or produce (shop, etc.) from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. I have been convicted of this for several years and I have lost one good paying job, a home, and more because I chose to stand firm in my belief.  I have very openly made it know in job interviews that I do not work Sabbath and I would not be available during that time; I didn't get sever jobs specifically because I could not work Sabbath. And I have been blessed so greatly because I stood firm in my belief. I have a great position that does not require me to work Sabbath. I do miss out on some opportunities because I am not available, but I am allowed my choice. God makes sure that I have a roof over my head, food in my pantry, clothes on my back, and a tithe to bring to the alter.  I want for nothing and I truly believe that if I had not kept my faith in the truths as I believe them to be, I would not be the receipient of the promises and grace that God provides.

Cheryl Hepler Thank you for staying all ways th red y could choose to get out of it.  I am sure we all could think up some.  I think on Jesus asking His Father if would take the cup away...if not Your will be done.  Walking in the Spirit with the Lord sure shows detaching from the body.  Bless you, Lord!

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt Your death, Lord Jesus Christ, on the cross wounded satan severly. His time is short on this earth, and we need Gods wisdom and decernment. Christ blood has overcome satan, We need to know where our power comes from, and it is not from a dead God. God raised His son from death, that we can live this eternal life and all that it involves, here and now. We are seated in the heavenlys with our LORD Jesus Christ and no one can snatch us out of His hands. Praise God I have victory and the wisdom from God to resist satan. I am not perferect in my life on this earth, but will keep running the race that I will win in the end, when I take my final breath. Thank You my LORD for the victory you have given me. Provbers 22:4, Thank You Father, for the assurance that humility and the fear of the LORD bring welth, honor, and life.
