Let it Go

  • Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am Joseph! Does my father still live?' His brothers couldn't answer him; for they were terrified at his presence. Joseph said to his brothers, 'Come near to me, please.' They came near. 'He said, I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. Now don't be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.' Genesis 45:3 WEB

Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers, then he spent time in prison for a crime that he did not commit, but he served God and continued to use the gifts in his life wherever he found himself. Joseph was of exceptional character and the Lord was with him. He did not become filled with bitterness and spend his time sulking in a corner, licking his wounds. He did not get overcome by past events, and that is all that they were, events.

When Joseph became the ruler over Egypt, his brothers stood before him hungry and in need. When given an opportunity to get even, Joseph pardoned them and let them go. He knew that God was in control of his life. He told them 'God sent me before you to preserve life.'

When you have bitterness against someone else, it is like drinking poison yourself and thinking that it will hurt them, but it will only hurt you. You will just become an angry bitter person that no one wants to be around, and will be handed over to the tormentors (Matt 18:34) until you let it go. That is not a good plan.

When they do not want to live with you any longer, let them go. God has someone better waiting that will treat you right. When you wrongfully lose your job, let it go. Smile, God has a better one coming and you would have been unavailable.

When your family has treated you like dirt, let it go. Stay sweet and continue the love walk. Like Joseph, God can lift you above them and they will have to look up to you one day.

When you feel that your entire life has been one long mistake, let it go. Turn to God and He will wash you as white as snow and give you a new beginning. Hold onto God every day, but let the past events go.

Prayer: Father I pray that You give me the grace to let go of my past. I want to serve You Lord and walk in all that You have for me. Guide me, teach me, help me to see through Your eyes, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Marisa Jackson Amen!! Great words of wisdom.  It is hard at times so hard to let go, but I tell myself, God is in control.  Yes, we all have free will, but no matter what, God Our loving Father is always in control.  That to me is a huge blessing to know that he guides me and I am learning everyday to "Let It Go!"  God be the Glory!  Amen!!

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles Thank you Pastor Dion. It was a good cry! I need to hear this and I am praying daily for that peace and grace. I am bitter and so want to LET IT GO!!!!! The days are getting better and the nights... well I'm working on that. I know in my heart  God guided me to my decision to leave  a hostile environment, so I know he has a better plan. I don't want to be a bitter old woman yet I struggle very hard with indignation. I realize this is pride and yet still choose to live in the past where I don't belong. LORD, FATHER, HEALER, is that what happened? Was I handed over to the tormentors? Only you Lord can STOP this ever present torment in my life! Stop this nightly bombardment of would of, should of, could of! Send me to the peace that I can't bring to myself. HELP me LET IT GO!!!! Please also bring healing and peace to the person who has hurt me so. I know she is hurting and lashing out. I don't hate her, I hate how she felt intitled to hurt me. Remove the bitterness from us both and help us forgive. Bring me restful nights and calm my heart. Help me trust again and believe in myself once more. AMEN Pastor thank you so much for your divine hearing of our fathers word. Little by little I am moving forward and know God walks with me.  Many blessings to you and Sylvia.

Deleted Member Many many blessings and prayers are going up for you. I know even in all this pain, Jesus will bring you through the hurt and pain that has been caused to you. I pray healing over your mind, body and soul. I pray that Jesus sends you that sweet peace and comfort and strength to get through this hurtful time in your life. I pray and believe for many new and happy blessings come to you and that this person, that hurt you so, she will realize the pain she has caused you and want to make it right with you. I pray a special healing to your hurt, pain and sorrow.  Love you so much and I know and believe everything is going to be alright. Love you bunches.

Marilyn DeJongh
Marilyn DeJonghedited: October 14, 2015 Mr. Raby, your post caught my eye.  I understand and am sorry for your pain.  Sometimes we think all is ok, because it's what we want, at the time, and don't listen to what God has in mind for us.  Living without communication with your mate, is hard, I know.  Each day, I get up and think, "I can do better and not get upset."  Often, I don't meet that goal.  These daily devotionals are such a blessing, and make me realize I must be more kind and gentle when I speak.  I must forgive, tho' it's often hard, when the hurt continues.  I often fail, but know God is with me, even when others aren't.  God has given us the capacity to forgive and I think He expects it, tho' He knows us better than any other can.  He makes my life better, even on days when it's not going so well.  I'll pray for you and ask God to wrap you in His comforting arms.  No matter what we do, or don't do, God loves us.  His presence in my life keeps me moving forward, and trying.  Lean on our Lord, He's there.  May God bless you today and each day ahead.

Khalilah Horton- Spencer
Khalilah Horton- Spencer I enjoyed reading the message Let it Go. God is so good . I love him so. We have to ask God to create in us a clean heart and a righteous spirit daily. We are called to love one another and what better example than Joseph. Even though the world is lost, God protects his people. Oh how I love Jesus! We have to be living examples daily. Bless you Pastor Todd & 1st Lady Sylvia

Deleted Member Mary Pat, always know what has been forgiven and also been forgotten by Jesus, never to be remembered anymore. Jesus never, ever brings your past up to you, when it comes, know it is only coming from satan and tell satan to get behind you in The Name of Jesus, because you are not going to listen to anything bad satan has to say anymore. Jesus loves you and He wants you to have peace and joy, happiness and hope. Love and blessings.

Marcia Lament
Marcia Lament Thank you for this today I am going thru some things with my family and have felt betrayed by their actions. It does not mean I don't love them, but it hurts me to think they could act this way towards me after all that I have given up for them. I must start today to let it go and move forward.  I know God has my back.  Bless you Pastor Dion. I so needed this.

Julie Schneider
Julie Schneider This is so powerful and I truly needed it! In my professional life I often mediated disagreements between people and always remained as non-judgemental as possible. And i often had angry people to deal with... But let a family member say something unkind to me and I fall apart!!! My sister inlaw was really ugly about my children a couple of months ago and although I thought i had let it go, I dreamed about the incident last night! I know in my head that she is just unhappy and took it out on me but i guess there still must be a part of me that is still clinging to the hurt....so once again i prayed to let it go!  I cant imagine how Joseph must have felt....obviously his brothers were lucky to have him instead of me!

K K
K K Always timely! Facing possibly losing my job over increasing disability and feeling upset about it. Yet, in the long run, if that's what comes about there is nothing I can personally do to change it and I will have to let it go. Today a friend emailed me with a possible connection to someone whom I might be able to become self employed from home with. Like God is already trying to tell me that He knows what I need. Amen. I'm doing my best, day at a time, to leave it up to Him.

Laura Magin
Laura Magin I really enjoyed reading this message.  It will be very helpful to me with some things that happened to me in my past that I have forgiven people of but so many years later the events still hang over my head like a dark cloud.   I KNOW I need to let them go.  It is so hard but I still know I need to.  I am filing this message in my "All About Jesus" folder and will pray the prayer.  I always say I have emotional scars but I need to let Jesus heal those.  Letting go can be so hard but with Jesus all things are possible.  He is my rock and that is what I must stand on, not on the negative things of the past.  Thank you Dion for the wonderful message!
