The Coach

  • But when they deliver you up, don't be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Matthew 10:19 WEB

A truly great coach is almost transparent. Always behind the team pressing them on. Proud of their team's accomplishments, but at the same time, always asking for more out of them. Even though they have so much great information to give, they have to move forward at the pace of the player, because the player can only absorb so much at one time.

So it is with the Holy Spirit. Every day, He is with us. He is transparent but always there, urging us to do better, try harder. When we get into prayer or praise and things start coming to us to say that we would have never thought of, that is the Holy Spirit coaching you. When you are around someone that is feeling down and an encouraging word comes, that is the Holy Spirit wanting to speak through you.

He is always striving to make us better, yet never taking credit and always pointing you to Jesus. I say 'He' because Jesus said that the Comforter, the Counselor, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and remind you of all that I said to you (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit is a person with feelings and He can be grieved by our actions (Ephesians 4:30). When you feel the presence of God, you are feeling the Holy Spirit who is on earth with us.

The following are some of the works of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was led by the Spirit (Matt. 4:1). Jesus cast out demons by the Spirit (Matt. 12:8). The Holy Spirit brings the power with Him (Acts 1:8). People often resist the Holy Spirit (Acts 7:51). He speaks (Acts 13:2). Some people do not know that He exists at all (Acts 19:2). He spoke through the prophets of old (Acts 28:25). He brings joy (Romans 14:17). He teaches us (1Cor. 2:13). He lives inside of us (1Cor. 6:19, 2Tim. 1:14). Prophecy all through the Bible was given by the Holy Spirit (2Peter 1:21). We, the beloved, are to build ourselves up by praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude 20).

The Holy Spirit is an intricate part of scripture. He was here at the creation of the earth (Genesis 1:2) and He was with John when he wrote the book of Revelation (Rev. 1:10). He was with David when he wrote Psalms (Psalm 51:11). Some teach that He was only here for a short time with the Apostles while establishing the first church, but that is not scriptural. The Holy Spirit is eternal, He was here at the very beginning, and He is still here today.

Never try and limit God to your past experience as if you were His coach. He is the smart One. We are merely the student and He is able to do more than any of us think. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit during your day. Pay attention to the things that you cannot see and divine encounters will begin to take place. He has the answer to everything and every need. He is the Ultimate Coach.

Prayer: Father fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Speak to me and through me. I yield to You Lord, use my hands as Yours. Coach me Lord, teach me and I will learn. Speak to me, and I will listen. Lead me, and I will follow, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Khalilah Horton- Spencer
Khalilah Horton- Spencer Good Morning, Pastor The Coach was for me, yesterday I was asked to speak words of encouragement at my cousin Pastor David Foster church grand opening "City of Faith Christian Center". Well, immediately I thought I do not have anything planned. Then, my mom told me sweetie "you got this" the Holy Spirit will give you what to say. I learned that it's not about me but it's about the Holy Spirit, the Comforter gave me exactly what to say, thank God for Jesus. Pastor Todd, Jesus gave me exactly what to say. Hallelujah, thanks for the scripture.

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt This is so true. The Holy Spirit was given to us to teach us all things. I agree that if we let the Holy Spirit lead us we will do Gods will, and won't have to worry if we are doing or saying the wrong things. The Holy Spirit prayes for us when we do not know what to say to God. or even how to pray. So many times we don/t even relise the power that lives within us. Thank you my LORD for giving me the Holy Spirit to live within me.

Albert Chau
Albert Chauedited: September 21, 2015 The Holy Spirit also works through other people deliver the message to us for our own good. I learned the hard way ignoring warning from several people God sent and paid severe consequences as the result. One of them claimed as she delivered the message, she got goosebumps all over her body. As today message said so clearly, "Speak to me and through me. I yield to You Lord", we must yield ourselves to God when being spoken to by Holy Spirit for our own good.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield God is so good, giving us His Spirit to guide us, to help us and teach us! Recently, my ex husband asked me to define the Holy Spirit, and I could only think of one defining adjective: LOVE.I really believe the Spirit can enter the life of any mortal. All we have to do is pray and wait...God will never ignore our prayers for wisdom, love, and patience.. And all three are fruits of the Spirit!
