But when they deliver you up, don't be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Matthew 10:19'20 WEB.A truly great coach is almost transparent. They are always behind the team, pressing them to improve their game. Coaches are proud of their team's accomplishments, but at the same time, always asking for more out of them. Yet, even though they have so much great information to give, they have to move forward at the pace of the players, for they can only absorb so much at one time.
So it is with the Holy Spirit. Every day, He is with us. He is transparent but always there, urging us to do better, to try harder. When we get into prayer or praise, and things start coming to us to say that we would have never thought of, that is the Holy Spirit coaching us. When you are around someone feeling down, and an encouraging word comes to you, that is the Holy Spirit wanting to speak through you.
The Holy Spirit always strives to make us better, yet never takes credit and always points us to Jesus. I say "He" because Jesus said that the Comforter, the Counselor, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and remind you of all that I said to you (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit is a person with feelings, and our actions can grieve him (Ephesians 4:30). When you feel the presence of God, you are actually feeling the Holy Spirit who is here on the earth with us. Jesus ascended to heaven, and the Holy Spirit came down in Acts chapter 2, and He has never left.
The following are some of the works of the Holy Spirit: Jesus was led by the Spirit (Matthew 4:1). Jesus cast out demons by the Spirit (Matthew 12:8). The Holy Spirit brings the power with Him (Acts 1:8). People often resist the Holy Spirit (Acts 7:51). He speaks (Acts 13:2). Some people do not know that He exists at all (Acts 19:2). He spoke through the prophets of old (Acts 28:25). He brings joy (Romans 14:17). He teaches us (1Corinthians 2:13). He lives inside of us (1Corinthians 6:19, 2Timothy 1:14). Prophecy all through the Bible was given by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21). We are to build ourselves up by praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude 20).
The Holy Spirit is an intricate part of scripture. He was here at the beginning hovering over the waters (Genesis 1:2), and He was with John when he wrote the book of Revelation (Revelation 1:10). He was with David when he wrote Psalms (Psalm 51:11). Some people teach that He was only here with the Apostles while establishing the first church for a short time, but that isn't scriptural. The Holy Spirit is eternal. He was here at the very beginning, and He is still here today.
Never try and limit God to your past experience as if you were His coach. He is the smart one. We are merely the student, and He can do more than any of us think. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit during your day. Pay attention to the things that you can't see, and divine encounters will begin to take place. He has the answer to everything and every need. The Holy Spirit is the Ultimate Coach.
