If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, "Don't handle, nor taste, nor touch" (all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imp...

On The Job Training

  • I have said these things to you, while still living with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you. John 14:25'26 WEB.

My heart was racing, and I had no answers. Then I mindlessly rested my hand on the little box, and another light came on. When I moved my hand away, it went out. The Holy Spirit had given me a clue. So I looked closer at the wires connected to the back and found one of the network cables had a loose end. I repaired the cable, and the computer came back online.

Thirty minutes before, I'd never seen a computer network, and I knew absolutely nothing about them. An insurance company had called me when one of their computers had lost connection with the others. I worked on computers at night as a hobby, and they had gotten my number from a friend. This was in the early nineties, and most things still ran DOS ("Disk Operating System"). Computers were rare here, much less a network of them. I'd never actually seen a networked computer before.

When they called me, I started to tell them no. Then the manager explained that the people who had originally installed the network were gone, and now they had no one else to call. I still didn't want to go, but then I felt the Holy Spirit say, "Go, and I will go with you." So I told them that I'd come and look at it. All the way there, I fought back panic and wondered why I was even going. Why had they called me in the first place? I'd never gone to school for computers. They were merely a hobby, and I felt completely unqualified.

I prayed all the way there, then went in and met the manager. We were standing beside a tall filing cabinet while he explained what was happening. There was a small box on top of it with a lot of flashing lights. That was the network hub. The Holy Spirit prompted me to rest my hand right on top of the problem, and it was fixed within ten minutes. They thought I was a network guru, and that office became my client for the next seventeen years. The Lord did things like that day after day in my life. I learned that if I only went, He would go with me.

The Holy Spirit will teach you "all" things if you don't let fear hold you back. God is amazingly smart and ahead of the cutting edge. He can give you the answers to the most difficult problems and make you look like a genius in the process. Yet, never neglect prayer. For it's not just for spiritual purposes but also for the wisdom that you need to get through the day.

"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him" (James 1:5 WEB).

When the Lord opens the door, pray and step out in faith, believing He will go with you. He will equip you for the job, and if you follow His guidance, you cannot fail. David stepped out against Goliath while the others cowered in fear. He didn't let fear of the giant hold him back. We love to prepare and have it all planned out in advance. Yet, the Holy Spirit will teach you all things on an as-needed basis, and He specializes in on-the-job training. "Go, and I will go with you."

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please set up divine encounters for me today, and give me the wisdom to accomplish them. I love to see You work in my life, and I yield myself to You. Use me today in some way. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
