Watch The Edges

  • Dont be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we dont give up. Galatians 6:6 WEB

As I fell through the air from the top of the building, Dads words came to mind. He had warned me to watch my balance and to not get too close to the edge because we were working several floors up in the air. But I was young and indestructible at the time.

We were constructing an office building and setting the rafters in place, when I lost my balance and fell over the side, then gravity took over and I had no control. Thank God I landed in a huge sand pile and did not get a scratch, but there were tall stakes sticking out of the ground a few feet from where I landed that could have killed me.

Many times in life we are on top of the building, and God warns us to stay balanced and stay away from the fringes. Still, we go our own way because after all, we know what is best for us. When we forego all of the warnings, go over the edge and start our descent down we finally crash. At this point we sometimes accuse God of hitting us with the sidewalk when this is what we wanted. When we break natural laws and reap the consequences, He is not to blame. We reap just what we sow.

Stay away from the edges. The Old Testament plagues always seemed to start on the fringes of the camp and never in the Holy of Holies where Gods presence resided. Try and stay balanced, centered, grounded, and keep in mind that tomorrow we will reap what we have sown today. If the sidewalk has hit you in the face, dont blame God for it. Just get back up and dust yourself off. The next time we will be more careful and listen to that still, small voice inside warning us.

Prayer: Father I pray that you protect me from getting out of balance and help me press deeper into Your presence. Draw my heart to seek Your face and consume that which holds me back, in the name of Jesus.

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles Father God, Thank you for this daily devotion and provision of your word, it truly strengthens me. I pray that you keep me balanced and in good courage as I try to be still and hear that still small voice. Sometimes I think I hear you and I get scared... I know you are sending me your love but it feels like you are getting me ready for battle and I desprately need calm now as the scars of the last battle are still so fresh. Even so, your will be done and please protect my family from hardships and struggles as we try to follow you. Lead me to where you want us, show us the way and give us strength and courage to stand strong in faith. Help us to grow closer to you and please bless us with peace and joy unmeasured, as we have had enough sorrow and struggle and are in desprate need of your mercies, healing, peace & joy. In Jesus name ~Amen~ Thank you Pastor>> You have blessed me a great deal today.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield I am terrified of heights, and today's devotion made me cringe! That must have been SCARY, to say the least! But it also reminds me of the slower descent I went through when I was in the throes of my eating disorder. It was much the same thing; I believed I was infallible and nothing could harm me.Stubborn brat is what I was (and that's being polite!) It took 40 years for me to finally grow up, and today, I'm still paying the price for the mistakes I made. But I will persevere and run that race--I refuse to let my past interfere with my future! Blessings to all today! Love, Kathy

Patty Martin
Patty Martin Another timely message, Pastor Dion!  It is so easy for us to become unbalanced and fall.  At times, we are so headstrong that we don't listen to the Spirit living within us.  We have the warnings but we just push ourselves, testing the limits. There are always consequences when we hit the ground.  Finding that balance is so important.  I have found that balance more than not as I've grown older.  In my youth, I thought I was invincible and did things "my" way.  It's not so much the age (although age does let me know I'm not invincible) as it is spending time in scripture and in prayer with the Father.  Thanking God today for his grace and mercy, and for many more second chances.
