The Vineyard from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. I have always admired Amos, who was a shepherd in a field when the Lord told him to go and prophesy to King Jeroboam in Bethel. The priest Amaziah told him to prophesy somewhere else. They weren't interested in what the Lord had to say, but A...

for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again, but the wicked are overthrown by calamity. Proverbs 24:16 WEB.Once again, I was the one who promised he would never do it again, then went and did it again. I had slowly drifted away one more time. I have found that it's easy to make promises...

Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? Haven't you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth your hand now, and touch all t...

Commotion

  • It happened in these days, that he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God. When it was day, he called his disciples, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles Luke 6:12'13 WEB.

After a morning filled with phone calls, texts, and many emails, my mind was in chaos. The inside of my head felt like I was standing in the middle of a busy intersection. It was just noise in there. I needed to hear from the Lord and get fresh inspiration to write, but I could only hear the commotion.

I finally left my phone behind and withdrew to my prayer room. After some quiet time and prayer with the Lord, I could hear once again. Now I'm an introvert, but I believe everyone could use some quiet time with God and the Bible. It sets the tone for the rest of our day.

Though people followed Him everywhere, Jesus often withdrew to be alone with God. Many people depended on Him, and of course, doing God's work was vitally important. Yet, Jesus made spending time alone with the Father a priority in His life. He was the Son of God, yet Jesus lived His life as our example. He used this quiet time to stay in tune with the Father and get His instructions for the day.

Jesus prayed all night before He chose His twelve apostles. (Luke 6:12). There are many references where Jesus withdrew from the crowds. Sometimes He took His apostles with Him and taught them alone. Sometimes they would get into a boat and leave for a deserted place where the masses couldn't follow them (Matthew 14:13).

We shouldn't allow the hustle and bustle of today's busy life to make us spiritually deaf. God isn't demanding or rude, and He won't normally force His way into your day. The Lord often speaks to us, but it may be a small nagging feeling or something subtle. If your head is in chaos, you will often miss Him. In quietness and trust, we will find strength (Isaiah 30:15).

Find somewhere quiet and peaceful where you can be alone with the Lord, if only for a few minutes. Pray and listen a moment. Maybe read your Bible. That small whisper can change your life, and it may save it. Don't let the commotion of life rob you of the greatest blessing.

Prayer: Speak to me today, Lord, for I am listening. Teach me, and I will learn. Lead me, and I will follow. I want to live my life for You. Please break these chains off of me today, and set me free to serve You. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!

Note: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths." (Prov. 3:5-6) ~ If you are in need of prayer, we and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network

Amen! Thats a good word,  we all get caught up in the chaos of daily life and its important to take the time to get quiet and pray. There has been construction across the road from us for 2 years so far, and the noise while not overly terrible is a distraction. A lot of times when Im in the studio working, and there is no playback or music being played, it gets pretty quiet in those headphones, Its kinda like my secret plave where i can get quiet if needed. I dont always hear from God, but more often than not he does. And I cheerish that. :)

I have heard God's whisper many times, both on small things like finding my car keys or life changing events. Sometimes I wish He spoke a little louder or more quickly. His timing and volume are always perfect, however!
