...Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? No, but you yourselves do wrong and defraud, and that against your brothers. Or don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God's Kingdom? Don't be deceived... 1 Corinthians 6:7-9 WEB.A friend of mine once worked as a salesman at a local car dealership. One day a lady came in who was interested in buying a particular car. However, the air conditioning didn't work correctly. The manager really wanted to sell that car. When my friend asked him about repairing it, he said they were too busy but promised to fix the air conditioning for free if she brought it back later in the month.
The woman purchased the car that day on the manager's promise and left. Later, when she brought the car back to have the air conditioning repaired, the manager denied that he had promised her anything. Then he called my friend into his office to back up his lie. At that point, my friend had to decide whether to do the right thing and tell the truth or look the other way and keep his job.
My friend sided with the woman and got the air conditioning on the car fixed, but the embarrassed manager got even with him, and he lost his job. It worked out for the best anyway, as the "stealership" soon closed, and my friend built a loyal following of people who will only buy a car from him, regardless of where he works.
Have you ever done something and then felt wrong about it later? Maybe you did not describe the item that you sold clearly enough? I have. It is easy to lean towards the salesman inside us in business transactions if we are not careful.
The Holy Spirit searches all of our motives and transactions as a light shining into the darkest places. It reveals things we would rather be hidden. Today, if you face a choice of doing what is right or looking the other way, remember that right will always be right, and it will work out for the best in the long run. Short term gains are quickly lost, but the guilt will remain.
