The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness. Therefore see whether the light that is in you isn't darkness. If therefore your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will...

The Pressure Cooker

  • For we don't desire to have you uninformed, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia: that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life. Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver, on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us 2 Corinthians 1:8'10 WEB.

When we have a tough piece of meat that we are trying to cook, we break out a pressure cooker that we have, and soon it will become so tender that it just falls apart. The pressure cooker is an excellent device for speeding up long cooking tasks. Something that would take three hours to cook can be cooked in the pressure cooker in about thirty minutes.

When the Lord decided to put me in the ministry, He brought the pressure of closing our existing business. When I tried to keep it open, He turned up the pressure until I literally had no choice but to do what He wanted, or starve and be homeless.

You would think that He could have just asked me, but instead, our business dried up, which brought tremendous financial pressure along with it. Then at the last minute, the week that we prepared to move out of our home, He opened up a door in ministry, and here we are. Now I know without a shadow of a doubt that He put me here and that He is with us. I don't have to wonder if I forced my way into the ministry, for it was Him that pushed me.

We spent some quality time in God's pressure cooker. It got us to where He wanted us to be, and it also changed us in the process. We learned a lot during that season. Serving God with all your heart, giving all that you have, praying on your face in tears, praise, worship, and fasting does not rescue you from hardship or pressure. Sometimes you are meant to endure the situation and have something squeezed out of you. In the end, it will work out better.

Paul wrote there were times when they were under so much pressure, so far beyond their control, that he thought they would die. Then he noted that it was so that they would trust in God and not in themselves. This was the way that the Apostles lived. They depended on God to take care of them.

That is scary for those that want to be in control but still serve God because there will come a time when He will break you and teach you to trust Him instead. When your world begins to crumble because you are no longer in control of the situation, guess who your God was: You. I still remember the day that I had to start trusting Him, and it was because I was powerless against what was happening, much like Paul.

There is good news, it does not last forever. Pressure cooking is the fast track, but intense. Who you become when under pressure is just who you really are. God already knows, but He wants you to know, and He allows pressure to steer us in the right direction.

He knows just how much we need, for how long, and something that could take years, may only take weeks. So don't panic and give up when you are under pressure. You are not the first. You will come out of this better when you are done, and you will have a testimony to share with others who may go through the same thing.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You work Your perfect will in my life. Please put me where I need to be, and surround me with those that need to be there. Give me hope, Lord, and help me to remain stable while under pressure. I have put my trust in God. What can man do to me? In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!

Note: For those participating in the Creation Photography weekly themes, here is this week's challenge from group leader, Dianna Wyles: Matthew 5:16 "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven." ~ This week's theme fun will be 'Let your Love Light Shine' and is open wide for creative interpretation! We encourage you to post anything else that inspires you as well. My photos this week reflect some road trip fun and me shining my photography 'Love Light' cause I love playing in nature with my camera! Have a wonderful week everyone and let that love light shine ~ God bless! Here is the link: Creation Photographers

When I read this I can picture an exact time in my life when I was at my former job. I had been there for close to 11 years with the last several of those years becoming noticeably worse, but I stuck it out because I thought I can overcome this toxic environment. My "determination",  aka stubborn, was going to get me through. I found that I was praying the same prayer every morning before I would pass through the doors. "Lord please keep me safe and protected from my bosses and coworkers Amen. "  I would then say satan get behind thee!

This went on for about the last  4 of the 11 years until finally God turned on the pressure cooker. The doctors that I worked for fired their manager of 38 years and brought in a new manager who was an absolute viscous liar with very clear intentions. She would stop at nothing to crush you if she put you in her sights. Everyone in the office did their best to avoid even making eye contact with her. She would walk around with intimidation and the office which was already an unstable environment became unbearable. The day finally came when I was the chosen target. I was called in to her office and forced to defend myself against her lies. I knew at that moment I needed to get out of there.

I started looking for a new job without their knowledge and quietly cleaning out my work area. I went on a few job interviews without telling anyone. Each one did not feel right until I got the call from a wonderful lady named Carol. She was a regional manager of a very large health organization in my area. When I met her for the interview I was blown away at how friendly she was and we hit it off right away. Within 2 days of that interview I was offered the job. I accepted and then silently waited the 30 days that it took to get everything in order. The day finally came when I was able to put in my 2 weeks notice at the cess oil where I was working. Out of the 4 doctors who owned the practice only one was brave enough to face me. He asked me to stay and asked what could be done to keep me there. I said the only way I would stay here is if you fired the manager and sent all of her evi sidekicks packing too. He asked if I would consider a meeting between the manager and him and I said no. The deal was done. I was very afraid of that change but once I surrendered to the Lord's plan it went like a well oiled machine. I've been at the job for 3.5 years and have already been promoted  I love to tell this testimony because I think it can give encouragement to people like me who sometimes have to hit their hand with the hammer multiple times before the message sinks in. God is good all the time!!! Amen
